Tne United States Sub-T*basuey at
Chaki.Sstov-—We have not cared, here
tofore, to trouble ourselves about the
false statements of the Tribuns, and
other Now York papers, concern
ing the United States Sub-Treasury at
Charleston. But as the honor of our
State is concerned, And it is due to her
friends everywhere that they should
know the truth of the matter, we now
state that neither the Governor of
South Carolina, nor any other power
or authority of law, has - ever seised or
marie use of any of the Binds of the
Sub-Treasury in this city. We further
state that the amount in tho Sub-Trea
sury, when South Carolina seceded,
was not the pitiful sum of 90000. > os at
first reported, nor the sum of $21,000
us the T. 'hunt now reports it, but it
was $150,000, which amount has been
reduced in the usual manner, by pay
ments, nocording to the law of the Uni
ted States, to about $50,000. This sum
is still in the Sub-Treasury to the credit
of the United States Treasurer and the
disbursing agents. South Carolina has
not touched a cent of this money, and
her forbearance in that respect is the
more remarkable, because a large
amount of it is’ due to her own citizens
of the outfit and provisions of Fort
Sumter, for payment of whioh they
vainly besiege the office doors of the
Sub-Treasurer—that officer having no
power to pay them without an order
from the authorities at Washington.—
Charleston Mercury,
Another Abolition Row
A dispatch from Rochester, N. Y.,
the 11th says: The Rev. Mr. May, Busan
B. Anthony, and others of that Stripe,
attempted to hold a meeting here to
night. It was broken up by citizens, and
resolutions in favor ofthe Union were
passed and cheers given for Gen. Scott
and M^jor Anderson! A flag, bearing
the inscription “ No compromise with
slavery,” was not allowd to be wspend-
ed across Buffalo street. The authori
ties prevented a general riot.
