Rev James B. Converse, editor of the
Christian Observer, of Louisville, Ky,
Augusta Chronicle: The display of
national banners in Rome was sufficient
to have cheered the fiery heart of Blaine
and bulled the hopes of Ben Butler’s
bunting factory. Rome is a loyal city.

No Mosquitoes In Home.
Those who suffer from such little
pests as fleas and mosquitoes only know
what a nuisance they are. Rome is en
tirely free from these enemies to com
fort and sweet sleep.
We are sorry to hear of the death
of Mrs. Gessler, wife of the armless
showman, Mr. Gessler, who has been in
our oity about two weeks. She died at
Mrs. Freeman’s boarding house last
Sunday, of typhoid fevor, having been
sick for several days, being unwell when
■he came here.

the State and the whole country.
Recently a Georgia girl, Mise Lila
Noble, of Rome, went down into a Cor
nish mine three thousand feet, fifteen
hundred of which was by ladder. She
came up again, hand-over-hand, and
won the admiration of the miners. Our
Southern girls are equal to any situa
tion, either above or under ground, in
the kitchen, parlor, or deep down in a
Cornish mine. God bless em.—Hous

rules and regulations prescribed by the

Memphis, on the Louisville road, and
conferred with the mayors, physicians
and prominent citizens. All sympa
thize with us, and will not quarantine
against us unless we have an epidemic.”
Everything regarding the fever remains
in statu quo. No new cases have been
reported, and the general impression is
that the fever will not spread, but will
be confined to the families where it is
at present located. No change is re
ported in the condition of Judge Ray
and his son. Both are very low are not
expected to live.
The State Board of Health this morn
ing established inspectors of trains and
passengers. Hereafter all persons and
trains leaving Memphis will be required
to have certificates from the inspecting
officers. All trains arriving and de
parting will transfer passengers and bag
gage at a point five miles distant from
the city. Judge Ray’s condition is un
improved, and but faint hopes are enter
tained of his recovery. His son also
lies in a critical condition. No new
oases have been reported within the
past two days.
