A FRESH GHOST STORY.
There has recently been created in
Chelsea, England, a most extraordi
nary excitement, in consequence of a
rumor that a supernatural apparition
had been seen and thrown several
persons into fits. It seems that there
is residing in that place a man named
Ward, whose family consisted of two
■ons, excavators, aged 25 < nd 27; and
a daughter aged 17. In the same
house resides a family named Parsloe
A few nights since Emma Ward,
upon going into her bedroom saw the
apparition and fainted away. Upon
her brother coming home he entered
the same room and was^so terrified
that, he also fell itno violent fits. The
noise alarmed the lodgers and Mrs.
Pursloe an elderly matron opened
the door and she likewis went into
fits at the sight of the spectre.
The eldest son’ upon com
ing in ascertaining how matters
were, made np to the ghost, and en
deavored to clutch it; but to his hor-
Tor, although the spectre stood before
him, he could feel nothing substan
tial, and he straightway followed the
example of the preceding ghostseers.
—His fits, however’ required sever
al men to hold him down, and la-ted
hours. By this time hundreds of
people were collected outside the
house, and the policeman on the
heat being informed that it was a
ghost, defered entering the house un
til he had a reinforcement. Having
received the aid of three of his com
rades. an entry was made by bursting
the in door. What they saw is
not clearly known, but they audibly
declared that they would not stay in
the house for untold gold, and advis
ed the inrna'es to leave the ghost in
undisturbed possesion. Ward, se
nior’came in at this juncture,} and
stayed the emigration. By this time
the streets were impassible, and hun
dreds of people were outside the lious
as late as five o’clock in the morning
This brought up another reinforce
ment of the police, and although
they remained and searched the pre
mises in every direction, the most
horrible moans and noises continued.
The doors kept opening and slam
ming to without any visible,Jagency.
The noise still continued at the sail
ing ofthe last steamer, and a noma
dic preacher wason the premises the!
previous day to exercise the

L. Stewart, Esq , No. 137 Second street, New
York.
Sparta, June 30,1849.
Dear Friend Stewart:—I have been home now
just two months. When I last saw you, 1 had
but little hopes of ever getting any bellyr But
1 haye now the pleasure of thanking you for re
commending me to take Dr. Rogers’ Syrup of
Liverwort,'far and Cancbalagua. 1 got a doz
en bottles of it and took home with me, deter
mined to make a fair trial of it, as l had done
with everj thing else. I have only taken four
bottles of it, and I must say it lias done me more
good than any other medicine 1 have ever ta
ken. On my first taking il, it increased the ex
pectoration, and I raised a'great deal of bloody
matter from iny Lungs. But that has now ceas
ed, and so has my cough, nearly. I cough but
little how, and expect soon to be entirely free
from it. 1 consider it an invaluable medicine,
and shall recommend it to all who are afflicted
with a Cough or Diseased Lungs.
