the person of George C. Waldrep, a young
man 25 years of age, by Michael Cline, on
Friday night, 23 of October. It occurred
s ix miles north-west of Canton Cherokee
county, at the house of William Guuter,

perpetrator to this bond crime.—The scene
was commenced by a personal engagement

the house, where he had beeu detained, in
to the yard with an open knife, and without

without a weapon, his assailant, from whom
he received nine wounds, either one of the
three of which were thought sufficient to
produce death —from which he gradually

At the close of our last weekly repert, the-
market was in a drooping condition, and prices
in favor of buyers. The transactions of the week
were only 1,200 b iles, and Middling u-as quoted
at 94 cents. Oil Saturday forenoon, the tavora-
ble foreign accounts by the Niagara, being sev
en davs later, were received. They imparled
but little firmness to the market, and the sales
that day were but 253 bales. r I he market opened
on Monday with still later European advices by
the Arctic. The Liverpool market closed on the
19lh with Fair Orleans quoted at 6|d - and i air
Upland at “id. The sales for the three days
were20,000 bates. These accounts had a ten
dency to cause a better inquiry, and the sales
^hatday reached 730 bales, at firmer and fuller
