Particulars of llic Great Auval
Baltic-
The greatest Naval engagement since the
battle of Navarinu, was fought on the 13lh
November, between the Turkish aud Russia
Beets. The loss of life was frightful on both
hides. It appears that the .entire Russian
Fleet comprising twenty-four sail, appeared
off the Turkish harbor of Siunope, in which
lay a portion of the Turkish Fleet compris
ing fourteen ships, commanded by Adini
rai Osman Bay. The battle was connuen
cod immediately.
The Turks being unable to bring their
shpie batleiies to bear upon the Russian
ships the latter forced the haibor when the
engagement assumed the most terrific char
acter. The Turks are said to have fought
with utter desperation. They would not
surrender but bravely fought until their
ships one after another were sunk, blown
» p or burned. The Turks had seven frigates,
two corvetts, one steamer and three traus-
j orts destroyed.
Ihe Turkish Admiral, Os man Bay, was
taken j>risoner by the Russians.
Each Turkish ship Lad on board besides
the crew, 800 troops, who were being con
veyed to Circasia. On the Turkish ships
tnere was also a large amount of Money to
pay the fleet, all of which was lost..
The Turks burned or sunk several Rus
Man ships. Two of them line of-bat le, three
Ligates and Two steamers. The .battle las
ted only one hour. The remainder of the
Russian fleet was so shattered it could
scarcely reach Sehastapool. All Eurojie is
in excitement and the opinion now prevails
that an European war is no longer avei ta
