The Mormon Prophets.—A short
time since three persons called at a house
in the locality of the Newport Cattle mar
ket, and one of them requested lodgings
for the night. He was accommodated,
and the other two* gentlemen seeing their
friend in comfortable quarters, took their
leave. The lodger retired to bed about
ten o’eletk; hot not making his appear
ance by ten o' clock the next morning, the
landlady supposed be might be ill, and
gently rapped at his room-door ; but re
ceiving ro reply, she thought he had per-
hap* been over-fatigued on the previous
day, and therefore slept late and soundly.
A couple of hours mure elapsed without the
lodger appearing ■ and the good woman
again went up, but 'this time peeped
through the keyhole, when, to her great
alarm, she saw hex lodger stretched upon
the bed apparently lifeless. She called up
her husband, who went into the room, and
without hesitation pronounced him to be a
corpse. At this critical moment there
came a loud knocking at the street door;
on opening it, the woman saw the same
twe men who had brought their lodger the
night before. As soon as they saw her,
they said, “Yon have a dead man in the
house 1” The woman said it was so, but
asked -how they knew it ? “O, it hath
been revealed unto us by the angel of the
Lord I" said the prophets. The husband,
who appears to have been more wide
awake than his wife, and who had been
quietly listening to this, then said, “0, I
see, I see ;” and fetching a moderate-sized
walking-stick, he ran up to the corpse, to
which he applied his stick so effectually
that the corpse sprang out of bed with one
bound, huddled on its clothes with as little
deliberation, and darting down stairs, join
ed his brother prophets, and the three de
camped with the least possible delay.—

Is tour Honor hurt ?—Judge D-
a witty fellow, after spending and evening
with a young lawyer whose office was in
the second story of a building, took his
departure and had got half way down the
stairs, when he stumbled and fell to the
bottom. The young lawyer hearing the
noise, rushed out, and, seeing the Judge
lying on bis back at the bottom of the stairs,
enquired in a tone of great anxiety : “Is
your honor hurt ?” the Judge by this time
had regained his feet, and looking up, he
replied—“No, but my legs are.”

An Irishman who was near-sighted, and

pains, irritation, prostration, and the intolerable
foetid discharge, rendered life a burden. In
