THE ANGEL BARQUE-

“Little Calvin, a biue-eyeU, fair-haired child

eyes fixed upward, he answeied, “To Heaven,
mother,” and in a moment was in the aiinri-oi
him who h s said, “Sutler little - cUUureu to
c -me unto me, ai d forb d them uoi, for of sucu
is the kingdom of Heaven. ’.
From the posy western heaven,
Through the tinted mista of even
Up the purple aeeps'of twilight
Slowly saied a suowy cloud,;
Co; stihg by the golden sky-lands,
Sweeping round the starry islands,
Sailed that barque until tlie zenith
V as enveloped in its shroud.
Summers six had come and parted,
Since upon that aea uncharted,
Once before came seiaphs sail.ng
On-a skyward tending track.
Then a leaf, of God’s evangei
They nad left—it tiny angel
On thy bosom, gentle mother—
Now, they couie to call it back.
All his' earthly mission ended,
On his little coach extern ed,
' Lay-he, wStcding with the_ spirit',
As his azure eye grew dim;
Though by others all umuoted,
Watching where that vesstl floated,
. And the wooing angels waited,
For lie knew they came for him.
Many sweet “good byes” he told ye,
Close hlkl.ttle arms enfold ye
Father, brother pressing near him,
Si utting heaven from his view,
Eat to t. ee he cuing the neares',
T.iou tlie fondest, best and dearest,
As he murmured, “On ! my mother,
W’ill not yoc go with me too V’
‘Where,oh! wheremy child?’ ‘To Heaven”
Sighed the passing spirit- Even
Caught the cadence of the chorus
Aa the angel-barque swept on;
Bailing up the ether elowlv
It has reached the haven holy,
And lira moored within the shadow
Qf Jehovah’s “great white throne.”
