^Tilm proud to know that enough noble, brav
j patriotic men have already rushed forward
l( j loimed three volunteer companies. The Kmari-
'Ut-J Guiiids, (Capiain. Rev. John N. Wilcox) is
r ; ailv miito’rined. and l learn it was done by Ci '
James Grubb’s giving a large sum himself, an
prevailing on others to give liberally, Until a large
amount was procured—(in laet considerably more
than was necessary to pay Ibr the miilbrms.)
The Rough and Ready Guards, (Gapt. C. Ij,
Samples) have raised m..u.-y sufficient and have
purchased tlieir uniforms—B. L. Lane, E<q , In ad
iu.r the list with five hundred dollars. This is on
lv an other evidence ol Mr. Lane’s promptness to
respond to his country's need.
The “Ben Hill Guards” (Captain Win. McLeod,)
is the last company organized m our county. They
will be in full uniform at tlieir drill next week.
This company owes its existence to the Hon. Neil
McLeod, lie always being icady and willing to make
a „v sacrifice fhr the good of Ids country, and be
ing prompted by that pairiotism that should move
the twsom of every true man, worked and had the
company organized, bought the cloth for the uni
form, the caps, and bioiighl a tailor 10 cut the uni-
firms, binding himself to pay for the culiiu , Sic.,
if the til mens did not willingly do it. T his com

company—l leel saii-ti d they will win as ma y
laurels oil the bailie field as li.e gallant, ‘Hill,’ has
won on the slump.
Row, as I said in the commencement, it is our
■duty to'give our money freely. I learn that ihv*'
‘•River districts,” have given Ireely and liberally to
their companies (Gapt Wilcox's and Gapt Sample’s
companies.) It is with shame that 1 have to say
That the r.-.st ol the citizens (except those who have
•joined same one of the companies) seem willing 10
lie on their backs until tne enemy shall bind them
hand and foot. My people, is there nothing that
can arouse you to your interest l \V ill you have
n't said, yu refused to give your money or lend a
helping hand in repel the demons that seek to sub
jugate you ? Is a man of you so lost to the iut'-r
esi »t his country, and liberty, as to refuse to pio
tect and support the soldier’s family — when h
called in .tie battle? I trust not. I have heard
some-eif uou talk like men for the times. Don't be
like the ‘‘Georgia Major” that wrote a letter to tin
Georgian Iasi «vek—lalk and reluse to act. Ym
all know, that a youg man can do more service iu a
volunteer company for his 0 uiniry, li.au he can a.

patriotic men I have named—Col. G ubbs, Mr
