John Wesley and his Wife,
Mr. George Dawson, in a late lecture
on the great founder of Mehtcdism ? gavo
the following details. When Wesley
settled he said, ‘It would be more use
ful to marry.’ There is nothing like
giving that sort of prefty facing to.you^
wishes. 1 have known a friend, when
he was going to move from a little liv
ing to a large one, say that it was ber-
cause be was going to ‘a larger sphere
of usefulness.’ A certain witty man
used tosay that whenever a clergyman
went from a little living to a large one,
he did so because he had got a call,
but that would want a ‘good loud hpllo
to take him from a large to a little livr
ing.’ Wesley married a widow, wh,q,
through her jealousy, led him a life^f
wretchedness and misery. At last hia
spirit was up, anfi he wrote her, ‘Rnovy
me and know yourself Suspect me- not
