pleasure the proceedinss of the last
meeting of this Association, in our col

of Col. Smith, the President elect. We
regard the selection of Col. Smith as
most fortunate for the Society, and
trust that under his administration, a
career of honorable and pleasurable
usefulness will be commenced by the
Organization.
As a subject of vast interest, to the
county and State will be brought before

The Chairman Pro tern G<m. Samuel
Robison made a few court- ous and
pertinent remarks and the new.y elec
ted President took his place and ad
dressed the Society as follows ;
Gentlemen—Whenever I have been
requested by members of this Society,
to aocept the office of President, I have
strenuously objected to my election to
that responsible office, and have refus
ed to serve, believing that an older cit
izen than myself, would as your Presi
dent, better promote its interests.
j'still fear that my comparatively
short residence in your county, may
cause my acceptance of this office to
paralyze, rather than strengthen the
yoclety, And I would gladly have seen
the Executive mantle thrown upon oth^
jpr and abler shoulders.
But gentlemen while I did not desiro
the office, and would have preferred to
serve the cause in an humbler position .
I would be doing violence to my tool
ings', were I, by refusing to serve, to
disappoint your expectation 5 , or in any
degree jeopardize the interests of the
Society.
And since you insist on my accepting
the Presidential chair, and you individ
ually assure me, of your hearty coop
eration and assistance,in the great work,
’U which wo are engaged ; T cheerfully
wiive my objections : and deferring to
your superior judgment, accept the of
fice you have so courteously tendered ;
and in doing so I call upon you gentle
men, and upon every citizen of the
county, to aid our enterprise, that we
may build up an Agricultural Society
in Washington county, that will vie
honorably with any similar society in
Georgia.
In conclusion, Gentlemen, as Presi
dent of this Society, with your united
and harmonious concurrence and with
the cooperation of all the friends of
Agriculture in the county, I pledge
myself to do all in my power, to make
the Washington County Agricultural
Society a “Grand Success.”

Cordial ever offered to the public.
2ndly. The tonic principles of these TRULY

Germany since a Century.
Jrdly. The rapid cares it has effected in Dys

name without equal in the annals of Mediciue.

After a careful examination I must confess

excellent fer Dyspepsia, General Debility and
N ervous Diseases, and it is a good preventive
of Chills and Fever. ^ I find it to be the most
delightful and pleasant stomachic.
