our readers of The Evangelist, at least one
dozen sermons from the representative men

The Evangelist will be a supporter of
a pure Christian Literature, and as a Family
Paper, will be filled with good things for all
classes. As an Advertising medium, its cir
culation will be in Georgia, Alabama South
Carolina and Florida. *

of Benjamin M. Dent, (aueompaHied by
the Note and Mortgage Deed,) that on thfc
17tii day of November, eighteen hnudrod and
sixty nine, the Defendant made arid deliver-'
ed to the Plaintiff his promissory note, bear-’
ing date the day and year aforesaid, where
by the defendant promise twelve month;
date next following the date of said note, to’
pay to plaintiff, or bearer, one hundred and
forty dollars,or seven hundred ponnds of lint
cotton. Tor value received, and that after
wards, on the day and year aforesaid, the de-;
fendaut the better to secure the payment, of
said note, executed and delivered to the 1
plaintiff’ his deed of Mortgage, whereby the'
said defendant mortgaged to the plaintiff rc
tract .-.ml pared of land, in said county, con
taining two hundred acres, lying on the east
side of Hurricane crock, adjoining lands of
•John Shepherd. Berry Price and Robert
Me Ray. And it further appeming that said
note remains niaiid. it is therefore ordered,

Deaths Doings.—Since onr last the grim
messenger has been abroad in the eonntv
and borne away three of onr best citizens,
viz: Mr. Jesse McAfee, an aged and much
esteemed citizen, 1’. H. Oatoe, Esq., a good
and true man and for many years Justice of
the Peace in Catoe’s District, and Hans T.
Robson, Esq., a lawyer of several years
practice, a gallant soldier, good neighbor and
esteem ed citizen. Mr. Robson’s remains
were brought to this city and interred with
Masonic honors on Tuesday last.
