"Washington Superior Court convenes on
the 2nd Monday in March.
O
Onr merchants are getting ready to start
North for Spring Stocks in a few days.
O
Pay np yonr roadjtax or shoulder your pick
axe, for the streets do need working awfully.
Mrs. Elizabeth War then, for many years
a resident of this city, died on Tuesday night

O
We hear of one fanner in this county who
has planted nearly his entire crsp of com.
Hope he will not have his work to do over.

The marriage notice sent up from Burke
county, was unaccompanied ky the name of
the party sending it
anee.
Hence its nonappear-
We have seen but little ootton on our
streets for several days. This would seem
to indicate that the bulk,, at least, of the
staple has been shipped.

The new Organ at the Christian church
one of the sweetest toned instruments we
have ever heard. ’Twas used in the church
for the first time on Sabbath evening last
O
A gentleman of Sandersville, accompanied
bv a number of friends, left for Macon yes
terday to be united in marriage to a lovely
daughter of that city. They return to-day.
‘ ‘More anon. ”
— O
Miss Mamie Bangs, the accomplished
daughter of Maj. Joseph Bangs, has been
added to the able corps of teachers of the
Sandersville High School. A position she
merits in ft high degree.
-O
As will he seen by reference to his adver
tisement, Mr. J. H. Stapleton, at Tennills,
is closing out his old stock at reduced prices
in order to make room for Springlgooods.
Now is the time to obtain bargains.
o
Now that the Epizootic has played out, the
Whooping-cough has commenced a regular
ra&page among the little iolks, and the way
they do cough is a caution to those who have
never been blessed with such a luxury.
O
The March number of Arthur’s Dlustrated
Home Magazine is upon our table, This is
decidedly one of the best home publications
issued by the American press. Price $2 00
per annum, and published at Philadelphia
by t. S. Arthur, & Son. Each subscriber
also receives, gratis, a beautiful Chromo.
‘ ‘The Christian Graces. ”
O
Those who saw it were a little amused on
last Saturday by a dispute which occurred
between two “fifteenth amendments” of our
city. One of them attempted to convince
hi? opponent by the sharp and pointed ar
gument of a pocket knife, whereupon the
other insisted on his view of the subject by
the potent logic of a chop hatchet, which
was convincing and conclusive; it was a
“stunner,” but unfortunately, the under
taker didn’t get a job.

As some people will persist in having it
that Dave Flnker died in Baltimore, of Small
Pox, we take pleasure iff saying he died of
no such loath esome disease. Tn the next
place. Dave is not dead at all, but is well or
was a few days sinco—and will be home,
D. V., early in March.
O
Quite an Improvement.—Thank* to His
Honor, the Mayor, and his co-worker*, for
having the city lighted by new and hand
some lamps placed upon all tha principle
streets. It is something that has long beon
needed, and which all will appreciate. How
fast the old town is putting on city airs.
O
Elder W. C. Moreau has accepted the call
to the pastoral core of the Christian church
of this city. We congratulate the church
upon" their good fortune in securing the ser
vices of one so eminently qualified to minis
ter to them in holy things.
Mr. Moreau will preach at Poplar Spring
on Sabbath next.
O
Mr. Isaac Hermann, formerly of this city
but now of Chicago, dropped in upon us
last- Tuesday, looking as much like our old
friend Tkv. as could be. He has improved in
nothing, that we can discever, but is just as
handsome as ever. Every body was glad to
see him and will regret when his visit comes
to an end. He is now en route for New York
for Spring stock.

The matrimonial fever still rages, one or
two—generally two—victims to the malady
being carried off weekly. So much for a
good crop year. Plenty of^frings for wed-
| ding cake and somethin'^oo buy house-
| keeping tools with, and of course there nev-
I er was a better time for entering such co-
I partnership. Hurrah for every newly mar-
1 ried couple, and every old one, too, as to
1 that matter. May they all be happy to the
end of the chapter.

A piece of Antiquity.—Mr. G. W. Roberts,
! of this county, presents ns with a ticket to
the San Jacinto Ball, given at Floyd & Col
lins’ Hotel, Hoiiston, Texas, on the 20th of
April, 1838, in honor of the Battle of San
Jacinto. It is beautifully printed on straw
colored Satin, and the names of the managers
are: Gen. M. B. Lamar, A. S. Thurston,
Lorenzo De Zavala, H. P. Bee, F. B. Lub
bock, Gen. T. J. Rusk, J. Temple Dosweli,
E. Floyd, P. Halpin, J, W. Cruger, and J. K.
Allen.
Everybody, he who drives the plow or
he who rides in a carriage, should read Mr.
Laveigne’s advertisement. He is constantly
turning out handsome, and substantial ve
hicles, and as to plows they do say Henry
Little can beat the man who invented plows
making them. Laveigne’s shop is quite an
institution in our city, the biggest manufac
turing establishment we have, and deserves
the great run of patronage it has and is re
ceiving. Never ride in a Northern buggy
when you can get a better one made at yonr
own door.
^Spring, lovely spring, appears to be at
hand, with its balmy breath and fragrant flow
ers. Early fruits are beginning to bud while
mother earth is laying aside h*x sable garm
ents of grim old winter and donning her
robes of richest green. Happy transition
from the bleak months through which wo
have just passed. The winter of 72 and 73
