Preaching at Harris’ church on Sabbath

Mrs. Britten Scott, an aged and devotedly
pious lady of Emanuel county, died a few
days since.
O
We miss the familiar faces of many of our
merchants who are now in market laying in
Bpring stocks.

A premium is offered for the man or wo
man in these parts who hasn’t “the worst
cold thev ever n&d in their lives.”
O
Mrs. Margaret Walker, wife of Mr. James
H. Walker, au i an estimable lady o. this
county, died on Tuesday morning la-
Workmen are now busily engaged putting
pews in the Baptist Church uii.» the builu- j
ing will doubtlessly be ready for use in a 1
f$w weeks.
O
Tbe street lamps—now complete—look
real nice and give a good light. Again we
say thanks to those in authority for thus
needed improvement.
Somebody has been trying to get up a
respectable case of small-pox at No 14, C. It.
R., but the thing wouldn’t take. No snob
disease in the county.
O
Pleasant Job.—To take down and clean
out a long stovo pipe on a cold morning,
when the thermometer points to something
less than 40 degrees below zero.
O
Appointments op Elder W. C. Mobjuu.

The little folks do say that Gallaher has
the biggest lot of candy, etc., they ever did
see. Our opinion is, Gallaher is rather a
favorite with the children any way.
O
The following letters are held for postage
in the Sandersville Postoflioe: Miss A. Josey
Brazial, Bullard’s Station, M. & B. R. R.;
W. W. Carter & Sons, Savannah, Ga.
—o.
Letters addressed to Geo. Binkhardt, (no
doubt our friend Geo. A. Reinhart,) San
dersville, and Abram Malain, No 13, C. E. B.
are held for postage in the Savannah post
We regret to learn that Mr. James Bryan,
old and most beloved citizen of this coun-
, is thought to be sinking slowly to the
a,ve. He has been in feeble health for
sny years.
—O
March came in disagreeable. Saturday
ening a little sleet followed by rain in tor-
uts, Monday freezing cold and the wind
owing as it only blows in March. Old
,d experienced fruit growers predict a fail-
e of that crop this year.
0
Mr. W. A. Thomas, for some two years or
ore, a teacher in the Sandersville High
hool, has been attending medical lectures
Atlftta, preparatory to entering the prac-
:e of physic. Success to Dr. T., let his
ofession be wbat it may.
O
Our esteemed friend and former county-
m, Mr. N. T. Harman, of Bartow, was
lited in marriage to Miss Evans, daughter
his oo-partner, Hor. M. A. Evans, on the
th ult. The young people have onr best
shes for a long and happy life.
That new sign ol George Reinhirts is the
ndsomest one in town, and he expects to
ike boots and shoes just like t em pict-
es. They do say, however, (i upie wiil
k, you know,) that there is one objection
George’s boots, viz: you can never wear
>air of them out.
An Alabama exchange pays the following
deserved compliment to a lovely daughter of
our city:
A Georgia Bride.—Our friend, Mr. B. W.
Bryant of Havneville, and Mrs. Ella Hop
kins of Sandersville, Georgia, were married
one day last week, at the latter place. In
the midst of their great happiness they for
got not The Examiner. The bride is a niece
of that very worthy gentleman, Mr. John G.
Brown of Ash Creek, and won all hearts du
ring her visit to Lowndes last autumn. Mr.
Bryant has the reputation of being one of
the most experienced and successful planters
in the state. We wish them every joy that
Earth can give.
o
We cannot refrain from dropping a word
of caution for the benefit of our planting
friends. Do be careful. The country is wild,
so to speak, on the sabject of cotton and
commercial manures, many are doubtless
buying on time, with liens to mature early
in the fall. A bad crop year, low prices, or
many of the ills to which the fragrant ‘ ‘K ing
is subject and the country is again put in
its deplorable condition of a few years sinoe,
when strong men wept as the last pound of
cotton went to pay liens and not a cer t t >
carry home to the wife and children. Debt
is a hard master—a monster—with power to
rob life of all its joys, home of every com
fort Be sure you are on the safe side and
then go ahead with all your energy.
0 y
Gone to Best.—Mrs. Delany Ainsworth,
and aged and most esteemed lady of this
city, died on Sunday morning last. For
years she had been a great sufferer and her
peace having long since been made with her
God, she only waited for the glad summons
to come which should bid her lay aside a
life of affliction for one of joy unspeakable,
beyond death’s cold waters.
Deceased had raised a family of children
upon whom she could look with all a moth
er’s pride and feel it was well deserved.
Hor surviving children are: Bsv. James T.
Ainsworth; of the South Georgia Conference,
Messrs. Daniel and A. H. Ainsworth, Mrs.
ML. Newman and Mrs. Wm. Gallaher of our
city, and H. B. Ainsworth, Esq., of Tbomas-
ville. Sho was also the sister of our worthy
Ordinary, Maj. Haywood Brookins.
