The dwelling house of Mr. L M. Nunez,
of this county, was destroyed by fire on
Tuesday morning last. But little was saved
from the burning building. Mr. Nunez and
family have our unfeigned sympathy. The
fire is supposed to have been accidental.

Mr. Jas. T. Tapper, near Fenn’s Bridge,
has something to say in onr columns, of in
terest to the Planters of this county. He
has the right to sell the Cooper Plow, said
to be the best plow in use. See his. adver
tisement to the Planters of'Washington coun

Mrs. Wood, the wife of Mr. Matthew K.
Wood of this county, died a few days since.
She will be a great loss to her family; she
leaves an afflicted husband who is unable to
help himself in any way, and several small
children. May the Father in heaven protect
them.

It might he well enough for our people here
to consider the propriety of being vaccinated.
Several citizens of this county were in Irwin
ton last week, and some of them called on
Dr. Simmons while he was sick, not knowing
that he had small-pox. He died, and we
learn that his wife has the small-pox now.

Mr. B. W. Johnson, the clever and gentle
manly young horse drover, who has been
sojourning here during the past winter, left
on Wednesday for his home in Tennessee.
He states to us that he has sold eighty odd
mules since he came here, and he thanks
the people here for their liberal patronage.
He will return next fall with more stock.

A small house, the property of a negro wo
man, in this city, was burned on Thursday
evening of last week. It was rather a severe
calamity on the poor old darkey; she had
worked faithfully ever since last Christmas,
trying to have her house built, and had just
moved into it on Thursday morning, and
was bnmt out in the evening. She lost all
she had.
The attention of our lady readers is direct
ed to the advertisement of Miss Mary Perry.
She is well known in this county, and will
take pleasure in waiting on her lady friends,
and customers. Summer is coming, and
of course all the ladies want new .bonnets, and
at Miss Mary Perry’s is the place to get them.
Give her a call, ladies, when you want some
thing nice.

The Sunday School Festival has been de
ferred to the 17th of May. The Militaiy
celebrate the anniversary on the 1st The
Friends of Temperance will have their cele
bration on the 9th. Seems to ns ’twould
have been better to have united forces and
had one big blow out on the first However,
three grand dinners are better than one, and
the ladies of this community were never
known to fail in these matters.
