! We left .Sahdersville on Saturday ‘2Stli lilt,
land after a lung dusty ride, reached .Savan
nah about 6 P M. Learning that a steam
er would leave at 7 J’. M. tor Tyboo Island,
wo concluded to go down and .-.pend tin
night there and return next morning in tinu
to attend church ill tho city.
We had a most delightful sail by moon
light. As we steamed away, the many ships,
solo loners, and lirigs, lying at tho wharves,
whose crowded tnafts resembled a dis
mantled forest, but whoso oapaoious hulls
were all alive with different nationalities,
presented a scene to one uutravoled, singu
larly novel, and of thrilling interest.
•Still further un, we saw two mnjestie ships
at a distance, at anchor, with the moonlight
streaming down over them, and the reflec
tion of her rays from the calm waters of tlu
Savant. 'I formed a scene never to be
forgotten. We enjoyed views from every
part ot the ship, for w« were tlrst on dock, in
the cabin, on the prow and on the stern.
Arriving at tho wharf, we Imd a pleasant
ride over an excellent tramway of ono and a
half miles through beautiful groves of pal
metto, and live oak, gracefully festooned with
long pendent moss, and then stopped nt anew
uuil elegant hotel, within a hundred yards
of the wild surging Atlantic.
We could not resist our inclination to walk
out and catch by moonlight our tlrst
glimpse of the broad heaving ocean, before
wo retired. Wo were up early next morn
ing and out on the bench picking up shells,
qoutgo, ifce. We wme not much disappointed
when we found that we could not go baek to
