One of our good bouse wives bad the
pleasure of an all-day’s visit from a friend
near Tennille last week. Some others wete

Our sohool was among the first to give va-
oatlon and will be tbe first to resume duty.
Tbe first Monday in July being looked for
ward to with love by some of our small fry

In remembrance of Mr. John P. Thomp
aon who was born tLe 7th of November, 1811,
and died at the Home ol tbe Poor, in thia
county on the 8tb of Juno, 1893, aged nearly
82 years. He was williDg to go when tbe
Lord oalled him home, be said be was living
tor tbo Lord, wbo was feeding him, and bad
truly been a father for tbe orphans, and a
friend of tbe widows. When we ponder
over bis loss, that we now feel, there is so
rnnoh of pain that we turn in prayerful med
Ration, to the hopes we have of bis glorious
happiness, and we now long more for Heav
en and le.s for tbia earth. We feel that he
is
"Asleep in Jesus, blessed Bleep,
From wbiob none ever wakes to weep.”
“Dearest Grand Pa;" thou hast left ns,
And thy loss we deeply feel,
But ’tis God that bas bereft us,
He can all our sorrows heal.
Yet again we hope to moet thee,
When the day of life is fled,
Then in heaven with joy to greet thee,
Where no farewell tears are shed.”
He was buried at Antioch oburch, Rev. Dr.
Beok performing the funeral services,

DIED.
Mrs. Jnlia Verzilia Smith the wife of Mr.
R. R. Smith died at ber borne near Tennille
on Sunday morning, in the 42d year of her
age.
For several months Mrs. Smith was a vic
tim of that insidious disease consumption,
and for some time was confined to her bed
She was a member oi Ibe Christian obnrob
and expressed entire resignation to death,
her only regret being the separation from
the loved ones of her home. Sho leaves a
husband and five obildren, the youngest be
ing a babe of 4 months, to monrn tbe loss of
a loving wife and devoted mother. She was
buried in the Sandersville oemetery on Mon
day, Rev. F. L. Adams conducting the sol
emn service.
