Gladness Comes
W ith a better umlorstundiitgr of tlio
transient nature of the many phys
ical tils, which vanish before proper of-
forts—gentle effort i- pleasant efforts—
rightly directed. There Is comfort in
the knowledge, that so many forms of
sickness are not due to any actual dis
ease, but simply to a constipated condi
tion of the system, which the pleasant
family laxative, Syrup of Figs, prompt
ly removes. That is why it is the only
remedy with mill Iona of families, and fa
everywhere esteemed so highly by all
who'valuo good health. Its beneficial
effects are due to the fuel, that it is the
one remedy which promotes internal
cleanliness without debilitating the
organs on which it. acts. It is therefore
all important, in order to get its bene
ficial effects, to note when you pur
chase, that you have the genuine arti
cle, which is manufactured by the Calt-
fornltt Fig Hyrup Co. only and sold by
all reputable druggists.
If in the enjoyment of good health,
and the system is regular, laxatives or
other remedies are then not needed. If
afflicted with any a tual di ease, one
may be commended I > theme t skillful

New York’s famous thoroughfare, Broad
way, has been tho soene of some wonder
ful events. But the soetie which still stands
as the most remarkable, in point of enthu
siasm, is Louis Kossuth's famous ride up
Broadway in 1851. Kossuth had already
seeu and passed through a orowed of 500,
000 people iu bis triumphal ride up tbe
great thoroughfare. The culminating mo
ment, however, oconred when tbe great
Hungarian patriot reaohed tbo corner of
Broadway and Ann Street. The sight that
burst upon bim staggered him for tbe mo-
meut. In the open square direotly beforo
bim was massed together a quarter of a
million of people, and when this vast oon-
corse broke into a united cheer Kossuth
was fairly bewildered No man saw this
great event so well aud advantageously as
did Pujko Goodwin, the veteran New York
editor and Kossnlb'H closest friend in
Amerioa. Mr. Goodwin was with Kossuth,
and lor tbe first time he will now tell tho
Htory of the marvelous events in the Febru
