McCARlY SHOE CO. TO
HAVE NEW QUARTERS.
When the judgi
roost he discovered a huge possum
was the cause of the alarm and
then the shooting began. Placing
his Bix shooter within four feet of
the grinning possum, the judge
began to fire. After the sixth
shot, the possum smiled at the
judge again and quietly walked
away, while Mrs. Jordan stood by
and wondered what would happen
if a real burglar would come.
The judge was not arrested, as
it is considered perfectly harmless
for him to beat large with a pistol.

built on a solid foundation and
that its future is secure.
Congregation Requests Mr.
Chamlee to Preach
the Sermon.
Just before the morning service
at the Baptist church in this city
last Fuuday morning the deacons
asked that a short conference
meet ing be held and the service
wm suspended for this purpose.
Judge I’. R. Taliaferro addressed
the conference, and made a motion
that the church be dedicated on
the fifth Sunday in December and
that the pastor, Ilcv. A. Chamlee,
be requested to preach the dedica
tion sermon.
Before putting tlm motion,
Judge Taliaferro made a short
talk in which he stated that lie
had not consulted with the pastor
about the dedication or as to who
should preach the sermon, but
that he had conferred with a large
number of the church members
and tlmt they were all of the same
miml in the matter. lie further
stated that the dedication service
be held on the fifth Sunday in
order that all the former pastors
of the church now living (there
being only three of them) might
be present and take some part in
the service.
The motion was unanimously
adopted and Mr. Chamlee will
preach the dedication sermon on
the date named.
Mr. E. J. Fuller was appointed
to arrange and have printed a
program for the dedication service
and to arrange the details.
There was a large congregation
present and the pastor s sermon
on “Brotherly Love’*’ was listened
to with great; interest and the
closest attention bv them.

Hon. T. W. Hardwick
Speaks at Wadley.
ITon. T. W. Hardwick, much to
the delight of his many friends
and admirers, kindly filled Dr. L.
G. Broughton’s appointment here
Tuesday evening.
While Col. Hardwick only had
a few hours notice he gave a
splendid talk. Tie gave a sketch
of Pres. Roosevelt and the life at
Washington, which was greatly
enjoyed and appreciated.
So those who were disappointed
at Dr. Broughton’s inability to
fill the appointment on account
of illness were doubly paid for
going to hear one of Georgia’s
most gifted sons and statesmen.
Col. Hardwick has a host of
friends and admirers of this sec
tion who will be delighted to learn
of his continued success.
Col. Hardwick wouldn’t accept
anything for liis talk, so the net
proceeds were donated to the
Wadley school to help pay for
acetylene lights for the auditori

Next. Fridftv morning the cor
ner stone of the handsome new
Christian church in this city will
belaid. Besides the Masonic core-
monies which arc always interest
ing and impressive, a very inte
resting program has been arrang
ed and the occasion will lie one of
great interest, and impressiveness.
This building, when completed
will be one of the handsomest and
best appointed churches in this
section of Georgia and will do
credit not only to its membership,
but our thriving and growing
city as well.

A Sad Picture.
The solemnity of the meeting
was somewhat disturbed when the
eloquent young theologian pictur
ed i u glowing words the selfishness
of men who spend thoir evenings
at the club, leaving their wives in
loneliness at home at this happy
season. “Think, my hearers “
said he, “of a poor, neglected
wife, all alone in the great dreary
house, rocking the cradle of her
