Tucker-Richbourg-MitcheH Tho bill introduced by Repre sentation Duggan providing for the election of Judge and Solici tor of the city court of Sandors- ville by the people was reconsid ered by the senato Committee last Monday and recommended to bo passed with an amendment which allows the people of the county to vote on the question of ratifying the bill in the October general election. In other words, the chnngo will not go into effect un less the people desire the privilege of electing the judge and solicitor by the people instead of having tho governor appoint them, ns is now the law. The proposed bill to be voted for or against, provides that the old law be amended so *ns to al low tho people to elect the Judge and Solicitor and that the terms of tlieso officers be lengthened to four years instead of two as at present. It also provides for quarterly terms of the court with descretiou in the .Judge to hold special terms at other terms if desired. The first two provisions were vigorously opposed by a large number of citizens und letters from many prominent citizens were mailed to the Representa tives, it is said, by both sides. Representatives Walker and Duggan agreed to ask tho senate to leave the whole matter to the people and they will vote on it in October. The election promises to be a vigorous and warm one and will be more uncertain be cause of the large numbers of negroes to vote on it . Tho election of the city court officers will be a new feature in the general elections of our coun ty, if the bill beebmesa law and will add now interest and excite ment to the local elections. If the bill is ratified in October the candidates will be voted for in the November National (“lec tion, so that the campaign will be a very short one, and without time for a canvass of tho county and the officers elected will begin their service a year later. People are already tnlki-ng of the election on the question of ratification of the proposed law and it issnid some hard work will bo done for both sides of that question without reguard lor t he preferences of tho voters for the officers of the court.
