First Bale Cotton
of the New Crop.
Tho first halo of new cotton
produced in Washington county
was ginned at Riddleville last
week for Mr. T. J. Fulghum and
was said in Tennille to the Dixie
Cotton Co., at 10V cents per
pound. The halo weighed 455
pounds and brought $47.77.
Mr. Mose Cohen is
Off to Market.
Mr. Moses Cohen left Tuesday
for New York and Baltimore
to purchase a large fall stock for
tho Cohen Company.
This enterprising firm has rap
idly forged to the front and the
incoming season will have a larger
and more complete stock of goods
than ever before.
Mr. Cohen will bain the eastern
markets several days.

At the regular meeting of the
Board of Roads and Revenues of
Washingson County held yester
day, Hon. I. W. Newman, the
obliging and efficient secretary
was remembered by a resolution
passed directing the acting secre
tary, Hon, \Y. Sam Askew, to
write him expressing the best
wishes of the Board, for a pleas
ant and enjoyable outing.
It is rare for any official to en
joy in so high n degree the confi
dence and esteem of his associates
and the people and this message
will no doubt be a pleasing and
agreeable surprise to tho absent
secretary. The resolution passed
is as follows;
Resolved : That the acting sec
retary be directed to communi
cate to the esteemed secretary of
this body, Hon. J. W. Newman,
who is now away' on his annual
vacation, the individual and unit
ed most cardial best wishes of the
Board for a happy and refreshing
outing, and renewed expressions
of appreciation by his associates
of his unvarying congeniality and
his high efficiency us an officer.
