fwttg. Hliow mo Thy Way. Dark the night, the snow is (ailing; Through the strorm are voices calling; Guides mistaken ami misleading, Far from home and help recoding; Vain is all those voiocs say: dhow me Thy way! Blinder I than tin me who guide me; Let me feci Thee close lieside me 1 Come aa light into my lieing! Unto to me be eyes, All-seeing! Hear my heart’s one wish, I pray : Show me Thy way I Son of Man, and Lord Immortal, Opener of the heavenly portal, In Thee all my hope is hidden ; Never yet was sonl forbidden Near Thee, always near, to stay; Show me Ihy way! Thou artTrnth’a eternal morning; Led by Thee, all evil neoming. In the paths of pare salvation I shall find Thy habitation, Wheoeo none ever more will stray; Show mo Thy way! Thou must load me, and none other - Lover truest, friend and brother, Thou art my aoul’s shelter, whether Stars gleam out, or tempests gather ; In Thy presence night isday ; Show me Thy way, fgtaceUaneottf, A Mtory Ibr Young X-.imll< m with lit (lav Itroihci-N. The moral of the following, tol l by the sufferer, is too apparent to mention. Young ladies will hereafter run their brothers out when gentlemen call. It’s certain that I wish somebody would spank the young rascal. We talked of mountains, hills, vales and cataracts—l believe I said waterfalls—when the boy spoke up and said : ‘Why sister’s got a whole trunk full of them up stairs ; pnsays they are mude of I mss hair.’ This revelation struck terror into me and blushes into the cheek of my fair companion. It begun to be very appa rent to me that I must be very guarded in what I said, lost the boy might slip in bis remarks at uncalled for places ; in fact, I turned my conversation to him and told him he ought to go homo with me and see wliut nice chickens I have in the country. Unluckily I mentioned a yoke o( calves which ruined all. The little one looked up and said : •Hisier’s got a dozen pair of them, but she don’t wear them only when she goes up town of windy duys,- ‘Leavo the room, you unmaimorly little wretch !' exclaimed Emily, ‘leave immediately.* ‘I know what you wunt me to leavo the room for!' exclaimed he, ‘you can’t tool me, you want to sit on that man’s lap and kiss him just like you did Bill Simmons the other day , you can't fool me. 1 jes tell you. Gun me some candy like he did, and I’ll go. You think cause you've got the Urcueiun bend that you're smart. Guess 1 know a thing or two. I’m mad at you, any how, because papa would have bought me u top yesterday, if it hadn’t been for getting them et. rls, dog on yer. You iicbd’ut turn so re I in the face, cause I can seo the the paint. There ain' t no use a winking with that glass eye of yourn for I ain't; goin'out of here, now, that's what the matter with the purps. I don’t care il you are twents-eight years old, you ain't un boss o' mine.' An Gun. Roburt. TouinbN Toombs, of Georgia, is one the moßt gifted of all the erratic geniuses that America has yet produced. Like Tom Marshulluud William Uask.ill, he is a natural born orator. Mr. Clay heard him make one of It is first political speech* cs at a inass meeting in Georgia in IS 10, and predicted for him then a brilliant future. It is related of Toombs that, on one occasion, in the trial of a veiy important case before a Georgia jury, he, by some strange absence of mind, got up and made a powerful speech against his his client, who was the plaintiff in the case. After he had spo ken nearly an hour, and was about to close, one of his associate counsel whis pered in his ear that he had made a mistake—that ho had spoken on the wiong side. For a moment only Toombs was perfectly dumbfoundered, and recovering immediately, ho turned to the court and jury and said : ‘Now may it please the court, and you, gentlemen of the jury, 1 have, in my remarks hitherto attempted to give you all of and the very best, too, that can be said on that side of the case, and though it may appear at first blush a very strong case, yet I am confident, if you will give me your attention a little while longer, 1 will be able to convince you, after all, my client, the plaintiff, is entitled to n verdict at your hands.' lie then proceeded to overturn every posi tion previously taken by him, exerting himself to the uttermost of his wound ed ability to repair bis mistake, and wound up with an appeal to the court and jury so thrilling, that he carried them by storm and triumphantly gained ! the case for bis client.— TUc Koaucku ! Y'trmnn. The Course of True Love— The Indianapolis News says ; A Lafayette lover seated himself on a barrel turned on its side, while serenading the mis tress of his heart. In his ecstacy he rolled the barrel over, slammed his guitar against a shutter in effort to regain hia balance, and disappeared in a cis tern. The bubbling cry of the strong swimmer, in his agony, brought out the family, including the bull dog, in vari ous brief and picturesque costumes, ranging all the way from an elaborate robe de nuit and curl papers worn by the innocent cause of it all, to a sim ple yet serviceable collar, ornamented with spikes, worn by the bull dog. P. S.— He was fished out. •What in the world will become of the Chicago people?’ said Mrs. Snib bins, glancing over the morning paper. ‘Why, they have not even recovered their health yet, not one of em.’ ‘Not recovered their health; what do you mean,’ quoth her astonished spouse, ‘Mean,’ she returned, ‘have not the reports in the papers every morning since the firejbeen headed, ‘Chicago Hl.’ The latest development of ingenuity consists in training dogs to howl noctur nally under neighboring windows, and to fetch home the boots and shoes thrown at them. It is said that there are seveal canines of such sagacity that they will not leave until they get prop erly assorted pairs.— Exchange. A llit. —‘Did you present your nc cout to the defendant Y inquired a law yer of his client. ‘I did sir.’ ‘And what did he say.’ ‘He told mo to go to the devil.* ‘Then what did you do V ‘Why, then—came to you.’ BUY S BUY !
