Frac tions cotinted as full square* Read the resolutions passed.at Mass Meeting on |r.<l Saturday. Nuisance. —The lanyard in town has become a nuisance to the people. New Goons. —Messrs. Morgan Si Scott are re' ceiving elegant and attractive new goods. Our exchanges from all sections are eomplaiuing of the caterpillars and r«st in cotton. Dahbecce.— McDuffie Hussars, assisted by the citiz- ns of Thomson, and vicinity will give a barbe cue at this place oo Thursday the 13th itist., at which time the banner purchased by Miss Mammie Hamilton will he presented to the company by Paul O. Hudsi n, and received by W. T. O’Neal, Esq. Distinguished speakers are expected to be present and deliver addresses on the occasion. Central Hotel. —Tiie Central Hotel, Augusta, Ga., is acquiring the reputation of being the very best Hotel in the c.ty. You are always sure to get good meals at the Central, comfortable rooms aud polite attention by the servants. In the office you are at ouce made to feel at home, by those courteous gentlemen Messrs. Winfrey and Steward, who are ever willing and anxious to extend any favors in their power to bestow. Let our friends give the Central a trial. Judge Reese’s Letter —We ask a careful peru sal of the letter of Judge Reese to be found on our first page. We are satisfied that the failure of the passage of the “Apportionment Bill” arose from no dault of Judge Reese or our Representative but from the fuel that the bill affected representation in dif ferent sections of the State. His letter we think, vindicates his course in the Legislature, and the compliment he pays to Messrs, Stovall aud Lampkin is especially deserving. Matrimonial.— Mr. Iverson G. Worrill, of this place, was married to Miss Anna Smith, of Han. cock connty, on Tuesday last. The happy pair reached Thomson on Friday morning's train, and are at present the gnests of Judge W. C. Worrill. To Blackie and his beauteous bride we wish a long life of happiness, and in the language of an other would add: “Oh! happy pair, to every blessing born! For yon may life’s calm stream unruffled run : For yon its roses bloom without a thorn, And bright as morning shine its evening sun!” Thanks. —We return many thanks to our kind friend Mr. I. G. Worrill and his accomplished Bride for some nice wedding c. ke and fine cigars. Another Suit. —We are informed that the citi zens of our city and connty owning Lot No. 176, which comprises an important portion of onr city and its suburbs, are about to have suit instituted against them for the reoovery of that property, by flie family of Landsdales, living in McDuffie coun ty, Ga., who, it seems, claims to have some show of title to it. At least, we Bhould judge so by the array of legal ability employed, which consists of Col. C. T. Goode, of this city, in connection with Messrs. B. H. Hill and R. Toombs.—Sumter Re publican. In addition to the array of legal talent employed in the above suit, we are informed that R. W, H. Neal, Esq., of this place has also been retained, and is now busily engaged in looking up evidence in the case. The Messrs. Lansdells claim to have the original grant to the lot above mentioned, together with a long chain of titles. Justice Court. —On Thursday last a respectable white lady of this county was arraigned before Jus tice Johnston upon the charge of assault with intent to murder a— courageous old “yeo-man” residing within the border.- of McDuffie. The charge failing to be sustained the case was dismissed at cost ot plaintiff, who iu hs sadness of heart left the presence of the court humming: “Must I consume my life—this little life. In guarding -gainst all may make it less, It is not worth so much I—it were to die Before my hour, to live iu dread of death ” Hon. G. P. Stovall. —Our Representative, Hon. G. P. Stovall, has returned from his Legislative duties, and is at present enjoying his usual health. We are always disposed to “render unto Ctesar the things that ape Caesar's,” and to accord “honor un to whom honor is due.” We have testimonials from the very first men in the General Assembly, speaking in the most complimentary terms of Mr. Stovall's services in the House, and exonerating him from any blame in failing to secure McDuffie representation. Mr. Stovall is not given to speech making, but is a man of fine abilities, and an ac tive, energetic worker. University or Georqia. —The next session of the University of Georgia, embracing the Academ ic, State College, and Law Departments, will begin on Monday, the 16th September. Each stndent should report, if possible, on the first day of the session. The examination for admission in the State Col lege of Agriculture and Mechanic Arts, will occur early iu the session. Board in each of the College Dormitories—the student furnishing his own room—will be $12.50 per month; payable three months in advance. A. A. LIPSCOMB, Chancellor. Athens,Ga., Sept. 6th, 1872. Mr. Editor: Will you please to say in your next issue that I have.determin ed to go with my friends in the support of tiie nominees of the Baltimore Con vention. I was honestly opposed to Mr. Greeley, and would be yet if we had had any ermnee of success, but the thing is settled now; Democrats must take either Greeley or Grant, and hence I go with my friends for Greeley and Biown. I have set in the corner long enough for the Grant men to break bark over my head! lam out now and taking the field for Greeley, my friends, Smith and all Dernocrtic nomnees. Wm. U. Anderson. Neuman Herald.'] We are pleased to see our “Straight” friends coming into line under the in spiration of that same patriotism that has influenced the large mass of the par ty in its suppjrt of Greeley to secure those grand objects centralization, reconciliation and reform. The Chicago ‘Journal’ loudly pro claims the astounding fact that. Grant ‘never had the slightest pretension to oratorical gifts !’ Precisely true, reports an exchange; but, when it comes to other gifts he will turn his back on no man. #ommerrial CORRECTED WEEKLY BY JOHN E.
