NOTICE.
The MeDaffie Journal, heretofore owned and
edited by H. C. Honey, Esq., will hereafter be
conducted by 11. C. Roney 4 J. E. White, Editor*
and Proprietom.
Dec. IC, 1872.
To Oni* PntronM.
W* owe an apology to the many kind friend* of
the Journal, who hare, and are, giving it unch a
liberal and oeneron* support, for the small summit
of reeling matter which the crowded condition of
our column* ha* enabled ua to give them for aotne
time past. Thia haa lieen caused liy the heavy
increase of bnsiness which always happens at this
season of the year in all thrifty, growing town*
like ours, where wide-awake, energetic traders and
merchants are anxion* and prompt to advertise
their l.nsines* and wares to the public. We are
confident, however, that onr patrons will extend
their indnlgent forliearance yet a little further
when they reflect that snch good lnck seldom falls
to the lot of the poverty-stricken printer. We are
glad to announce, however, that we have and will
*< on receive all the necessary material for enlarg
ing the Journal to nearly twice its present capacity,
with an entire new dress, and everything requisite
to make onrs one of the very best weekly papers
in the Htato, of which not only the proprietors, but
the people thomselve* shall be proud. Though
young in years, the Journal has already won
an enviable position in public opinion at home
and abroad ; and lieing the official organ and pub
lic representative of some of the richest and best
com: ties of the State, and with a large and rapidly
increasing circulation, it is certainly one of the
" host advertising mediums in the South.
The first of our next Volumn will be issued on
the seeond Wednesday in January 18711, after
which time wo will bo compcllod, in order to meet
the heavy oxpenses necessary for the improvement
a id enlargement of the Journal, to require of am,
thr cash in advance for subscriptions, and those
In arrears will, after a reasonable time, tie dropped
from our lists. It is unnecessary for ns to aseert
Unit we cannot edit, print and publish the Journal
or any other paper, ami pay onr own cxiienses,
with' ut. money. Wo am very anxious to begin
the next volume with a large increase of subscribers,
ami fineeroly hope that our friends will come for
ward without further urging, pay up what they
owe. renew tboir subscriptions and induce their
neighbors to join them in a liberal sup£>ort of
their homo paper.
InleroMlluyf Communion ♦ !<m.
We are in receipt of Hie following letter from
Judge William Gibson which, relating to e sub
ject of much interest anil importance to our
people, the Judge kindly permits ns to publish.
Tho reasons and fact* herein stated ami coming
from such a trustworthy source ought to satisfy
evory reflecting man of the error of ati attempt to
repeal the Act establishing McDuffie County.
Aooitbta, Ga., Doc. lti, 1872.
Farevn Roney i
I regret to see a division among our friend*
in McDuffie County, and while the stated cause
is large taxes, it is a little surprising how such a
cause should influence so many pom.-tax payors
which, under niir present Constitution, cannot anr
whereexceed one dom.au, excepting possibly, de
faulters.
The first yoarof your organisation, (lie taxes of
your citizens were paid into the Treasuries of War
ren nml Columbia counties ; hence your worthy
Ordinary had to borrow funds to pay all neces
sary county expenditures. Tho Hamilton band of
robbers, too, hsd their headquarters in your
county, and to bring them to justice ami grief, on
account of having no jail, and the expenses of
jurors and witness*, large expenditures were neces
sarily made. The prompt an.l speedy justice ad
ministered by the good people of your noble coun
ty to the known members of this hand, beoauii
xehs or expense, I doubt not has made strong ene
mies to your county by their friends and survivors.
All new enterprises, as well as new counties, must
necssarUy lneurexpensoa, as is well known to men of
intelligence and common sense 1-efore, as after
creation; hence any argument and reason upon
this line, should he urged before, and considered
as settled after the action of the Legislature crest
ing your county, and none other but turbulently
disposed peoples, who recognize nothing as settled
and fixed unless their wishes arc gratified and con
formed to, will aeck, for this reason, to disturb fixed
and settled laws, solemnly passed and fully recog
nized by the constituted author-ties of State.
For reasons since the creation of your county
let the facts be stated, charges made and the is
sues submitted to the intelligent peoples of your
county, and I doubt not in the coming and future
elections by your peoples fnl! and complete reme
dies will lie applied.
Os the- four Counties comprising this Judicial
Circuit your county taxes are less by fifty per cent
than two of them, and they are the two largest,
wealthiest and oldest counties in the Rate, and
but a fraction greater than the other. The tax
able property of your county, in its infancy, ex
ceeds over fifty eon dies in the State, and voting
population over sixty. The commerce and trade
of your county town, Thomson, exceed Warrenton,
Appling, Orawfordville, Sparta, t'onyer ior Deca
tur, and equal Greenslioro, Madison or Ooving
ton, and are rapidly increasing. Warren and
Columbia are still more than average counties, both
doing well, and, instead of feeling at ail envious
of your growth and progress, I doubt not feel
proud of your rapid strides and progress; ami
through the generous, true and noble representa
tives whom they now have in the Legislature, I
doubt not will lend you a supporting and helping
hand. It will require a two-third vote of the Le
gislature to repeal the Act creating your county,
and 1 doubt not also an Executive Veto lienee
I feel no apprehension whatever as to the future
of your county, and 1 trust no panic will lie creat
ed in the sale of your Bonds, authorized by the
last Legislature, as in xo possible kyent cocld a

MENT.
From my standpoint I have felt ca.led upon to
sav this much: and I trust that when the smart of
a few dollars shall have passed, and calm thought
and reflection resume their proper position, that
at least all the good men of your county will aban
don their worse than unless strife.
I am, very respectfully Ac.,
\VM. GIBSON.
