The accused is a bright mulatto,
C’lbng himself Fred Lutke. He

suspended through the summer on
account of the dullness of the steam

Ho made a bivo.ablo impression on

Editor Journal:
The second Quarterly Meeting o
the South A beville Circuit was held
at Liliert.y last Saturday and Sunday.
Rev. C. H. Pritchard, Presiding Eld

one of the best sermons on Saturday
that I have listened to for some time.
I did not have the pleasure of Hite d

that the largest congregation was in
attendance on that duy than there

feeling was manifested. The centen
nial at Cedar Springs came off on the
same day, and was qui e a success.
We are having very dry weafcbvr,
ami it is fe red corn ill be a failure.
The gold fever is raging in this
section, mid I have concluded to dig
Dio a ho in in th ground npynelt.
A disease is raging here among the
hogs, and one of my stioats is laid
up. Billy Stewart’s old sow went up
last week.
Somebody has been lifting some of
Uncle Jimmy’-.wheat, and he don’t
like it a bit.
Yon lady who subscribed for the
Journal recently has not pai me

didn’t.
Our railroad has broke out in a
new p ace, ami now wo will have two
railroads instead of one, as well as
the river, to k*ep dqwu the price of
freight, which will be bad on us
st.ic holders, but we can stand it, os
we intend to take stock in the river
also.
Mr. C. C. Jennings has a very sick

J. L. C. has had his feet frost bit

prohibit the sale of liquor in oir

it has upon our people in causing

“social g'uss,” their b ains
excited and they are ready to khl

cause we think that church mombelb

drink it at home, so their wives and
children can have the benefit of thq r
example. I believe that
should set such an example lisfoiT?
their children as they would like f<. r

Again, because it is so pleasant fift*

Thomson, Ga. , June 26, 1879.
Editor Journal:
As I have never seen anything in
your valuable paper from the section
of country through which I made a
flying visit, on Satur ay and Sunday
last, J thought perhaps you would
like to hear so nothing of the effipn,
<src. Therefore, I have concluded to
write a few lines about wfoat I saw
and heard. On Saturday evening
last I left this place and went- in the
direction of Union Gli roll. 1 no
ticed cotton and corn were looking
well all along the"road, although they
have had but very little rain in tho
neighborhood of Union for the past
four or five weeks. At Mr. George
Unmade's we took the right and
passed through his YD.:- '..on. Also
Mr. J. M. Curt;*’ p.i .v, where we
noticed corn was planted on Ixjtb
sides of the road, aud it is standing
the drought remarkably well. GVt
tou and corn both are in good con
dition. From Mr. Curtis’ we went
through the plantation of Dr. Pliiu
izy, which is superintended by Mr.
Win. Herring, where we spent the
night, and 1. assure you we had aph u
did meals of fried chicken, butter,
biscuits, &e., to which we did justice.
Mr. H. Inis one of tho finest gardens
I ever looked upon. Nearly every
thing you can mention is them, a ul,
the saying is, “lots of it.” ( L'hm is
where the largo spring turnip was
grown.)
Next morning about 7 o’clock, with
regret we bid Mr. H. and family
good-bye aud started in the direction
of Founta'ii cump-ground. We
passed through the plantation of ?.Ir.
O. L. Cloud, where I saw ouo of the
finest pastures X think I ever saw in
my life. I also noticed some very
fine cattle, hogs, goats, &c. At last
*e come in sight of Mr. GV large
brick dwelling, which is snri:ounded
hy a fine garden, oiebuid aud rich
fields of liarve-sted grtrin. I am sor
ry-to say the road through Mr. o’s
plantation is in a very bad condition.
And. oh, so many gates!
The crops in this section are very
good. The cotton looks a good deal
better than the-corn, alt he ugh some
of the crops aro grassy. At last we
arrived at Mr. Jack Roberts’, where
we spent an hour or so very pleas
antly, After receiving an invitatiou
to return to dinner we put out for the
cuihpgrouud. lam sorry to say I
TTuT tfWt. get fieri* in time to hear all
of the .splendid sermon delivered by
Mr. Pierce, the pastor. After
preaching we returned to Mr. R’s to
dinner, where we had the pleasure of
meeting tho handsome H., of Dear
ing, also Alias 1., of \VrigUtst>orQ. I
assure you l nevor had a more pleas
ant time in all my life.
At last 5 o’clock arrived and I had
to bid my fritnds farewell, aud start
for my home in Thomson. Although
it was very worm I arrived safe ami

I lost my—well I won’t say what.
