There are a few eases of yellow fever

DEATH.
The grim monster death again via
ltod our community on last Sunday
evening and claimed for his own Airs.
Susan Flanigan. She was stricken
duwu with typhoid fever about three
weeks previous to her death, and her
sufferings were great, but she bore
them with commendable patience mid
fortitude. She received the kiudeat
mid closest, atleutiou from physicians,
fneuds and loved ores, and every
thing possible was done to alleviate
her sufferings and to restore her to
perfect health, but alas! for human
aid, how weak. Mrs. Flanigan leaves
a husband and six little children, the
oldest scarce ten years of age, to
mourn after her. We tender our
hi art felt sympathies to the bereaved

AJr Jahn Hog mi, jr., who lives oil
Mr. ltoht. Davies' New Hope place,
happened to a very sad misfortuue on
Monday night of last week, the par
ticulars of which we give as they
were told us.
He nod his wife had gone to spend
the uight with a neighbor, and about
uine or ten o’clock oue of the negroes
on the place disc ivered a dense to).
mu of smoke rising from tLe top of
till) (Jirelliu ■ house, and hastened to
see what was the matter.
Aa soon as she arrived iu the yard
she saw that the house was on tire
and with some presence of mind.
broke down one of the doors and car
ried out two l>eds and one bedstead.
The smoke-house aud kitchen was
within a few step# of the dwelling,
and caught fire from it, and were con
sumed in a few minutes. Nothing
was saved except what is above men
tioned.
The burning was, undoubtedly the
work of an incendiary, ns it seems
the fire started from the inside of the
house. Mr. Davie informs us that
his loss v ill amount to about 8700,
and Mr. Hogan ca mot fail far short

i Since writing tlie aliove we learn
that nearly all of Mr. Hogans’ hous;
furniture was sav* and, ami that his loss
I was comparatively small.
A BRILLIAMT K IX'ftPTION.
D ctor Bichard lbissey, of Lincoln
county, was married by Bov. C. 11.
Strickland, of Augusta, to Miss Fan
nie Hillman, of McDuffie, oq the 15th
inat. We are under obligations to i
the Doctor to be present at his wed
ding, but regret that other engage
ments prevented our attending. We
learn that only a few cf the immedi
ate friends and near relatives of both
families were present. We received
and accepted an invitation to be pres
ent at tlie reception, which took place
at the residence of the grooms’ father
Niitliuu Bussey, Esq., ou tlie after
noon of the 15th. We arrived ut fcue
Bqiiirus about u quarter t > six o’clock
p. m., and after an old fashion hand
shake, and a hearty “how do you do,”
he bade us make ourselves at home.
His spacious mansion was beautiful
ly decorated, and brilliantly illumina l
ted, and presented an appearance at j
once attractive. About sixty young
ladies hud gathered to meet and c m- j
gnituldto the Doctor and his amiable
consort, and when they arrived a few
mi mites past six o’clock, there was a
collision of lips that mode us wonder
what tho world would do without
women. Supper was announced
about 0 o’clock, and such a display
of edibles a • was spread out before
the crowd could not fa 1 to satisfy the
most fastidious epicure.
After supper the young people
amused tbemaolv h iu a variety of
ways. During tlie night the young
men baUotfced for the h indsomest
young lady, and Miss Mai tie Dunn,
having receive and a majority of tlie
votes, was declared the Queen of
Beauty. It was th j handsomest
small crowd of young ladies wo ever
saw.
We sought and obtained an intro
duction to I,)r. Richards’ better half,
and she is a perfect charm in point of
bounty. She has dark hair, round
black eyes, and skiu as fair and as
tender as a Idly. She is gentle anil
affable in conversation, and is iudeed,
one of the most pleu'.aut young ladies
we ever met. If we had bo n single
we would doubtless have entered a
writ of objectment to tho Doctors’
claims. May their troubles bo few,
and their pleasures as the sand of
the sea shore,
