—FOR
THE TOWN OF THOMSON, GEORGIA.
AN ORDINANCE
To fix the ltinual, specific and business Taxes of the Town of Thomson for
the year 1885, and provide for collection of same, and the taking out
of Licenses therefor.
Sec. 1. lie it nrdiined bv the Board of Commissioners of the Town of
Thomson, and it is hereby or dained by authority of sanjp, that the follow
ing taxes on business, trades and professions, to bo paid by the person or
persons carrying on or engaged in same, shall he levied and collected for
the year 18S5, and payab'e on the first day of April, 18S5, or withiu thirty
days thereafter;and executions shall be issued and enforced for all such
specific taxes unpaid at the expiration of said time;
1. Upon the business of every merchant or mercantile firm in
said Town, the sum of .... $5.00
And, iu addition to said sum, a further tax as follows, to wit:
Upon every such merchant or mercantile firm when the gross sales
of such merchant or firm during 1885 exceed the sum of $5,000 and
do not exceed SIO,OOO, the sum of $2 50
And upon every such merchant or firm, whose gross sales or re
ceipts shall exceed SIO,OOO, the sum of $5 00

shab not sell for any transient dealer, or any other person, unless
such sales pass through the books of a regularly licensed auction
eer; bat every such transient dealer or other parson shall ba com
palled to take out license as a vendue master, under a penalty of
Ten Dollars for such unauthorized sale.

exhibitor, mirier, or any other person taking out a license to carry on or
exercise any trade or employment therein specified, shah pay to the Clerk

failing to take out license, us above set forth, for his tiude, calling or occu
pation, and yet exercising and carrying on such trade, calling or occupation

such special license or tax, or imprisoned in the discretion of the Mayor
not less than one nor more than thirty days.

To provide for the return of the gross sales or receipts of merchants and
otiieis, and to provide a penalty for the lion-retum or false return of such
merchants and others:
