The Firemen' ■ Festival.
Tin entertain meat at. the Court house on
Friday evening last, for the benefit of
Young America Fire Company, was a snc
ows both socially and financially. Over
twenty-two dollars in cash was realized,
and enough enjoyment and good feeling to
run the amount up into the hundreds, —
From 8 o'clock until about 12 the lower
rooms and corridors of the Courthouse were
througed with a pay company, who passed
the happy hours away laughing, talking
and enjoying the delicious refreshments
prepared for the occasion.
The success of the Festival is du to the
liberality of the ladies who furnished the
refreshments, and their untiring efforts ir
serving them. They showed by their ac
tions the high esteem in which they hold
our volunteer Firemen, who, in turn, will
always bear in constant memory these gen
erous services in their behalf. At a called
meeting on Mouday the Fiiemen were loud
iu their praise, and unanimously resolved
to expr si through the columns of the Jgur
mal their thanks to the following named
ladies;
To Misses Bessie Shiver and Leila Ben
eon for assistance in decorating.
To the following named ladies, who gen
erously contributed refreshments : Mrs.
Dr. Harrison, Mrs. Idus Shields, Mrs. TANARUS,
A Scott, Mrs. J. F. Shields, Mrs. 8.. O.
Sutton, Mrs. J, E. White, Mrs. Who. John
ston, Mrs. E. 11. Pearce, Mrs. J. F. Sutton,
Mrs. M. A. McLean, Mrs. E. 8. Harrison,
Mrs. W. R. Hadley, Mrs. A. D. Hill, Mrs.
J. H. Casey, Mrs. Dr. Johnson.
And to the following named young Misses
who so gracefully served the refreshments :
Misses Ora, Annie, Mattie and Maude
Johnaton, Georgia Knox, Hattie Lou Sut
ton, Julie Watson, Allie Wade, Alice and
Mamie Basford, Clara Thompson, Ida
Qnillian aod Deua Harrison, and Master
Rozier Casey.
The refreshments were served in the
greatest abundance, and were most heartily
enjoyed. Some ®f the ladies took the lead
of the boys, and treated to refreshments
whether they were willing or not. Mr,
Bob Anderson, in particular, was treated <o
ice cream and eharbet so often that he ac-
; tually froze, and had to be dipped in warm
j Wft ter to thaw him out iu time for church
; on Sunday morning.
j Hiiß entertainment afforded so much ir
nocent enjoymeLt and p’easure, that there
is a general wish that it shall be repeated
