WHEAT GROWING.
Soroo good advice from an old planter.
While I am not pi loting, I have liecn
n'planter and have had soma success in
growing wheat 1 therefore, desire to
make some miggeatious, trusting they
may prova at least some good to the
Country. The tune is near at hand when
wheat should bo put io the ground.
First, then, prepare your laud well by
breaking deep and dose. Then sow
your seed, borrow or plow it in with
small plows and in good time and good
order, the drier the ground, if yon can
break It, the better. Then, the next, and
iu> great a consideration, ia the kind of
Wheat yon aow. Years ago this oonntry
waa blesaod With some of tlio finest,
grades of wheat, ont of which the
whitest, finest, sweetest and most palata
ble flour conld lie made. It was the
tattle While, Big Wliito, Virginia Fliut,
and Batter whe.it, that I now recollect.
Then there was a little re 1 wheat which
made a nice creamy flour. It waa known
by some as the little Orleans wheat.
Oat of such wheat as the above tmmud,
curried to the mill in good order, as was
done in days long ago, such men as
Judge Bunth, Judge Johnston, and- all'
other millers that are fixed tip for *the
business as they are, could give you as
pure and as while flour as any mills west
or norili; and it wonld be flour made en
tirely from the wheat, without any false
mixture whatever, aud tiie good wives
and families wonld know exactly what
they were eating, end they would delight
in helping to son and prepare it for the
mil). But sad to say, our country is
overrun with a grade of wheat, ont of
which nice, white, sweet flour has never
I Horn in nil o aud never will bo. This
wheat was brought hi re na rust proof.
Tliat fnr it was a success, tint never for
making good flour. It was known ns the
Blue Htem and Mediterranean, bat it
was all the same grade. The Dallis
wheal was also of tin! name grade. The
late Voter W. Frimiip, of Union Faint,
was a successful planter, and especially
as a wheat growor. Ilis plan was lo
send to Baltimore and get tho best khfld
and now. Then out of that crop be
wonld how the uext crop, but after that,
get new seed, and bo never had rust and
bad the nicest, finest (lour and the best
yield of wheat. The grades of wheat I
have mentioned first iu this artioie hare
made aa Uno yields as uuy over grown in
this country. 80, if you desire good
yields and good flour, bow the right kind
of wheat, put it iu good order and in ilia
proper time, out it, thresh it, sun it and
send It krttio mill in good order, mil
yon will h .vo It,
