Everything considered, Thomson is tin*
best cotton market in the State.
Brunswick is still prostrate muter the
fearful scourge of yellow feyer, an 1 her suf
feriug people are calliug’piteously for aid.
John L. Holzendorf will sell you one
yard of good Tobacco for 40 cents. Try
him.
Mr- Ed. NVillson, of this place and Capt
Eve, of Augusta, have returned from a visit
to the World’s Fair, and are loaded to the
muzzle with lurid impressions of its Fast
ness and muchness.
Mr. 11. B. Lara more is opening up the
Jewelry bc.aineas in Sparta this week. In
bis absence Mr. Julius Laramore (otherwise
Buck) who is himself a skilful artisau, w ill
conduct the busmens in Thomson.
The Juvenile Missionary Society of the
Methodist church will give an entertain
ment at the church on Friday night next.
Kov. 3. which will be free to all and to
w hich everybody is invited. An Attractive
program has been arranged, and an eve
ning of much profit and pleasure will re
ward all who attend.
In addition to Ladies’ Rats of all styles,
Miwi Cora O’Neal has some nice caps for
boys. '
Better times are coming, but it is impos
sible to offer better Shoes and Hats than
you can get at Mulheriu, Kico Sc Co’s,
A. W* Sttlb and, Cos. We take pleasure
this week in introducing this reliable and
popular house to the rt adore of The Jour
nal. Our space is so limited that we will
postpone further reference to atfuture is
sue, with an &B*uranco to all tli t the firm
is entirely reliable, and all orders sent them
will receive prompt and careful attention.

Gib Reese, a colored boy about 10 years
old, took passage at Boneville on a b’unper
of the up freight for his home In Thomson,
last Monday uight, and when the train ar
rived he jumped eff before it stopped and
succeeded in getting his left foot caught,
under a wheel and (rushed into a jelly. *
The doctors suceeded in saving his foot |
and his life, and some think that Gib has j
learned a valuable lesson, but public opiu- ,
ion is divided on this point.
Mr. Gl.tude N Bennett, private secretary j
of Ho i. Hoke Smith of the Department of !
the Interior, is visiting bis fafcbei’s family j
at Harlem and relatives in Thomson, and!
honored The Journal with a pleasant call |
yesterday. His confidence in tin; Demon-;
racy is enthusiastic, and he does not fear j
that the party and the administration will j
lose the confidence and support of the
pc< pie.
E. J. O’Connor. Many of our readers
have already a business acquaintance with
Mr. O’Connor to whom no recommendation
from us is ntcessary. To all others we w ill
say that uo businessman in Augusta stands
higher as a liberal and reliable business •
man than he does. His goods and bis pric- ;
es never fail to satisfy everybody, and all'
he asks is a fair trial to convince yuti that
he is entirely worthy of your cofidence and <
patronage.
You will never know a better time than
to day to pay your sub Fcription to this pa
per. Try it and be happy.
Remember, you can get the Atlanta
Weekly Constitution and the McDuffie
Journal one year for $1.25. This is but
little more than the price of one paper.
A recent sudden and unexpected decline
jo the price of cotton caused much weeping
and wailing and gnashing of teeth among
the Bulls of the Thomson Cotton Exchange.
Their sorrow and tearful grief elicited the
follow ing inspired parody from one of the
jubilant bears:
Af *r the call is over,
After the slump and call ;
After the Hulls are hedging,
After the stuff is gone;
Many a heart is broken.
And if von could read them alll,
Mnnv a Bear is laughing,
After ike call.
—Chip.
Miss Cora O’Neal is receiving her new
stock of beautiful Fall and Winter Milli
nery. and invites the ladies *o call at her
store, next door to the Bank, and examine
her goods. She can please every taste.
Persons troubled with chonic diarrhoea
should try Chamberlain’s Colic, Cholera
and Diarrhea* Remedy. Many cases have
a *een cured by it after all else had failed
and skilled pbysiciaus were powerless. For
ale by Harrison Sc Iladley.

Teeth Extracted Without Pain-
Dr. G. T. Neal, Dentist, has the celobrat
“O-Don-Tnuder.” which is applied to the
gums aud renders tooth-pulling painless.
It is neither chloroform, oilier nor gas, is
perfectly liurruloss and is billowed by no
bad effects. There is no operation so uni
versally dreaded as the pulling of teeth.
But, by the application of tins wonderful
preparation, no pain whatever is suffered,
