THOMAS If TIKIfONS lu tlie pleasant mouth of May and on the 12th day of the month, 1*24, Itov, Alexander Burton Thrasher, of Thomson, McDuflfle county, G*., first opened List eyt>H iij>on the b antifiil Hceuem of earth, in Morgan county, Ga. His early day* wore passed amid euch physical, moral and political surrounding* ns were favor able fo the development of symetrical aifinuer* and manhood. , At nil earlier period than i* usual Judge Tbrawlier wn awakened to the truth that man is not only a moral and intellectual entity, but that there is a Spirit in man, and that the inspiration ! of the Almighty givolij him understand- j iug In the very springt me of life he wan led to “re pout a nee toward God and isitb toward our Lord Jesus Ciirist.*’ i Notwithstanding lie was born in the j sweet, vernal season of the year, and al- j though he had consecrated the buds of hi* biing and the earliest blossoms of hi* youth to hi* Creator, he waa not sc uuwise a* to imagine that life ws* only a garden filled with flower* and fruit* ; but, as a true Christian philosopher, he looked upon a future here below a* a pil grimage intermingled with sumdiine and shadow. Ho foresaw the mo ntains and ' valley*, the rough place* and smoo h | places, and with becoming couKidnration ' ho resolved to adopt the enduring Word of the Most High a* hi* pillar of cloud by day and hi* pillar of fire by night. Believing the Bible to bo an expres sion and a revolution of the will of God to men. he applied himself to a cuvfu* investigation of the truth ns it is in Jesus. ! Naturally a philanthropist, a lover, rather than ft legalist, his judgement of his fellow creatures ha* been striki/igly liberal and charitable. He has viewed all men .in the light of redemption. After a critical examination of the vu- 1 rious form* of religious thought, and the j distinctive interpretations of the nature | and scope of the Atonement, he Hooeptod 1 the Methodist statement of thia majestic ' them**. While he seoms only to have seen the ; best of men, lie ha* not been blind to die fad corruption of the human heart, ; or that which is censurable in the lives of men. When condemning the worst form* of evil his language has boon so pure and gentle n* to produce no revul sion of feeling on the part of those who hoard him. He bn* male it u rule of his life not to emlurravg himself by speaking detract iugly of others, or by intermeddling with other nicu’fi affair*. Yet he ha* profound sympathy for other*, and deplore* their faults and pities them when in trouble, j Judge Thrasher i* a gentleman, and is the tfiend of every man. He is very fond of children and they nil love him. This remarkable man "um educated in the bent schools acocasiblo to him. He i* oonversaut with soieuoe, history, the Engltßh classic*, Mathematics, Latin and Greek, lie luiM touwod Ui'T gmiprattfiu a* a teaohiv for more than fifty year*. Not j only ha* he been sucetß.dul a* a teacher j of books, bathe Ims opened to hi* pupil* 1 Iho Meerut of incut at concent nt ion. Ho ha* a Iso taught them how to solve the j problem of life. Fur more thou twenty ' year* ho served hia county a* an efficient : judicial officer. Brother Tin usher has been a faithful minister in the local ranks for more than fifty yean*. He was ordained a deacon by Bishop Paine and an older by Bishop Hargrove. Ho has been true to the church and Iris superior* in office, ami always ready to assist hi* iteneaut breth ren iu any way and at any time. Some j of his sermons would do credit to the bit preacher* of hi* time. He has been o.died to preach the consol it ions of Christ to the grief stricken more fre quently, perhaps, than any local preuahor of his day, and many of hi* discourse* on such ooca*ious were gems of pathetic e’oqucnoe. His oration delivered at the Baptist oh roll in J.uUnuy last at the funeral of Mr*. M. McLean would lmvo distinguished him as a groat mau if he had never said anything else. Ho has also officiated on many marriage occa sions. How well, how beautifully and how el iquently he has performed tliese delicate aud sacred offices ! He has not beeu u stranger to sorrow and grief, but he has not grown hard or | morose amid the struggle* aud oillictious of his march through life. Like the clouds aud storms that lwi ten the trav eler homeward, they have only driven him toward the haven of repose. Ho Removal or Law Officii. I have moved my Law Office to tlie to the front room over Wilson's Livery Stables, where I will bo glad to have my friends call. J. Glenn Stovall, / loves hi* family and cling* to them with undying affection. The lock* of tbi good man nro mingled with gray. H ] footstep* are feeble that once were feai less aud bold. But hi* kindly eye stil beam* with the fire* of love, iuteiUgenct ’ and good will. The life of our good friend lias beeu . success. Not many yeai* In UcC ho wii r ach the glowing sunset, hi* body wil rest beneath the the daises and the dew the mourners will go about the street*, and Hie soul of this modi esteemed ma will be singing and shouting in the city of our God. Those who have loved him in life w:l cornu with lovely flower*, unci weeping eyes, and in tremulous tones will slug: “The pain* of death are post, Labor and sorrow cease; And, life’;* long warfare closed at last, Hi* soul is found in peace, Soldier of Christ, well doue !
