Mass Mirrixo is Washixgtos. —The Mass
sleeting of the Twenty-ninth Senatorial District
which took place on yesterday, in this place ac
cording to announcement, has proved to be emi
nently a success. There was a very general
attendance from the three counties comprising
the District, and large delegations from several
adjoining counties. Augusta was represented
also, and we had the pleasure of seeing severe'
prominent genthmen of Hancock on the ground'
The disappointment on account of the failure
to arrive of General Gordon and other speakers
who were expected, was great. Our little Sis'
t er across the River came to the rescue however,
and gave us Judge Aldrich, Hon. A. Burt, and
Hon. James McGowan, honored and be'oved
men, and as speakers doing full justice to the
occasion and to the wants ol the audience. Gen.
Colquitt was present also, and by the noon day
train Gen. A. R. Wright arrived, both of whom
contributed to the pleasure and benefit of the
occasion by their speeches. We regret that time
for bids an extensive notice ol the several speeches
made by the gentlemen named above. Uepoit
era from the city papers were on hand, and the
public no doubt will have fully detailed accounts
in print.
The working Committees of the Democracy
had dischrrged their duty, and the result of their
labors with help of experienced cooks was a most
abundant and excellent dinner. Two hundred
carcasses, or the equivalents in other food, had
been provided, and the feast was ample for all
and good. Hie speaking lasted at the grove til!
five o'clock, and on the public rquare, after night,
was resumed by two or three very clever eolmed
speakers, lasting till 10 o’clock and closing the
demonstrations of the day. We would be
pleased to note incidents of the day and state
many pleasant features of the occasion if time
admitted in this issue. We congratulate the
29th District and the Democracy generally, on
the successful and enthusiastic meeting which
will no doubt result in good to our cause.
lUilkt's Vasictiks — This popular troupe has
been in our town during two days past, perform
irg under their spacious pavilion tent in the
vard ol the Male Academy.
The term ‘Varieties” is well suited to the
performance, for the announcement is as varied
as it is good The actors well understand their
parts, so far as making fun goes. Wherever
they perform they deserve a good audience of
all such as love a hearty laugh
,-l New Invention' —-Hall’s Patent Cotton Gin
Feeder is anew and valuable improvement just
introduced. Tlie Patentee has put up one at Mr.
M. 0. 1 cherts place where we doubt not Mr.
Roberts, or Mr. Drinkard will extend to visitors
the facilities for an examination of it, as it stands
at work. It feeds beautifully, with great regu
larity aud must largely increase the capacity
of the Gin. Certainly itisalabor saver, for with
it one hand could easily attend two Gins in the
same room.
Go and see it, and be alive to valuable im
provements. Get a Gullet t Gin, with Halls
Feeder and you will be fixed in stylo. H r e are
j-lgem for the sileofboth.
g&T The Camilla Riot is being turned to good
Rceount as political capital for the Had*cal paity,
H3 we supposed it would. Perhaps thousands <»f
vr-tes at the No-th will be changed by it. The
truth of the cape is as we stated it last week, but
no Radical organ tells the truth when a lie is at
all possible.
Moved.—U L Foreman has been busy this
week removing his Store to the new Stand on the
Sonth east corner. His new goods are coining
daily, and his old customers as well as new one-;
who call at his present location will find a well
appointed Store and ft gor>d Stock of Goods
Congressional. —Since it is decided there will
be an election for members of Congress at the
same tim ' with the Presidential election, it be
comes necessary that District Conventions be
held to nominate candidates. The Chronicle
suggests Augusta as the place and the Bth of
October as the time for bolding it. We see no
reason to the contrary, and trust our fellow citi
zens will see that delegates are appointed to
attend. It matters not how many delegates a*-e
sent for the vote of the counties in convention
will be regulated by its representation in the
State Legislature.
The Savannah Republican, with its com
plete outfit, its rood will and extensive patron
age, will be sold at public outcry in Savannah,
on the 6th inst.
This is in consequence of the death of Mr.
Hayes, the Editor and Proprietor.
Religious Notice —The Rev. Mr. Knowlet
will hold divine Service at Masonic Hall on Sun
day next, the Ith inst. nt half past ten o’clock
A. M., and at four o’clock P. M.
Stands the Test —Two weeks ago we sent
oct to Jas. W. Barksdale, Esqr., a fifty sawGul
letfc Gin for trial, with the understanding that
hr should try it in any manner he pleased, and
test it thoroughly as to every merit claimed for
it, before he decided to buy, and it should be no
sale if the machine failed in any respect. This
week we have a letter from him stating that it
does please him eminently well, in all respects.
Mr. Barksdale ginned a lot of first
upon a good Griswold Gin which he had, and
then another lot from the same bulk upon the
Gullet! ; packed them seperately, marking the
Gnllett bales with an X.
It was all consigned at once to S. D. Heard,
of August a, with instructions to sample and
price each bale, and report. Mr. Heards answer
we have, in which he states that on that day the
bales marked with an X were worth 23 cents
while the others would be dearer at 22 cents,
the difference being fully one cent in favor of the
X cotton. Mr. Barksdale states that he ginned
one day last week 1625 pounds lint of best qual
ity in nine hours.
He is well pleased of course with the per
formance and results, as any other reasonable
man would be, and we doubt not will take
pleasure in confirming our relation of facts in
the care

STAR AGRICULTURAL WORKS
Tie Atom Cottfln Gil Mannfc’ff Cos.
Manufacturers of the Celebrated ‘-Star” Cotton
Gins and Condensers, “Star” Threshing Ma
chines, ‘Star” Lever and Endless Chain
Horse Powers, and other Agricul
tural Machinery.
Our “Star” Cottou Gin and Condenser have ta
ken First Premiums in every instance where en
tered at Southern Fairs, competing with the best
Gins of the country made by other parties.
At the two Great Fairs of the Mechanics’ and
Agricultural Association, held at New Orleans
successively in November, and January,
1868, the “-Star” Gin and Condenser took at
both Fairs all the premiums offered on Gins
and Condense) 8, against a competition embrac
ing n’l other Gins of any prominence in the conn
try. Also at the last two State Fairs held at St.
Louis, Mo., our Gin and Condenser took the first
Premium against a powerful competition.
We claim, therefore for the “Star” Gin, supe
riority over all other Gins; and the Planter who
knows how much the value of his cotton is in
ceased by the good clu racter of the .vorkof his
Gin, will not fail to procure the “Star” Gin,
which is certified by the highest authority to be
superior in all respects, to the many other Gins
in market. The Condenser is a feat ure so new to
many Planters, that it may be necessary to state,
Ist. That the Condenser entirely obviates the ne
cessity of a “lint room,”for with that attachment
a Gin may be used in the open air or under a
temporary »belter, and the sheet or bat as it is
discharged from the Coudenser is ready for the
Press.
2d. The Condenser very effectively cleans the
cotton of sand and dirt, and thereby materially
adds to the appearance and value oft lie cotton.
3d. Planters testify that ‘ now a white man
can gin cotton and not suffer by inhaling the fine,
almost imperceptible particles of lint which fill
the air where a Condenser is not used.”
N B. We furnish Gins with or without Con
densers.
For sale by our Agents and Dealers, generally.
