A Town Cornell* — We welcome the move
meat toward establishing a town council in our
commuiiity once more. The election takes place
to-morrow, and the board elected will at once
enter upon its duties. Nuch authority is sadly
needed here to maintain the credit of the town
and the peace of our citizens Our first sugges
tion is that the office of Marshall be made a mat
ter of business, and not of Charily as heretofore.
We wsnt in that position the man who will do
his duty, vigilantly, honestly, and impartially,
and not the man who stands most in need of the
salary. The difficulty is, that no really good
man could afford to take the place for the small
pay usually given. The remedy for that is to
raise the pay, and make it adequate to the duties
enjoined on the officer, and tax the town enough
to raise the amount. Dont mind grumbling, it
will all be right if the tax is uniform on all, and
the board does what it is elected to do.
Ann Bkautt to the Beautiful and make the
desert blossom as the rose. Mr. James Vick,
Seedsman and flourist of Rochester. Nev York,
has favored this office with a copy of his illustra
ted catalogue for 1869. It exhibits an immense
assortment of flower and garden seeds, roots
cuttings, jbulbs, and every variety of growth
useful and ornamental. Avery small invest
ment of money at his moderate prices will se
cure variety and beauty and abundance in our
yard* and gardens. IHto does not love a tasty
flower yard, and teeming garden sand who will
not devote the small sura necessary to secure
these. Vick's catalogue will be sent for 10 cts..
and from it can be learned all about what we
need in every department of culture, and the
prices. This is less than half the cost of so
handsome a pamphlett as the catalogue is.
The Southern Cultivator for January, is at

than the very best and cheap us the cheapest.

HPHIS SCHOOL is designed to prepare boys

tie* for a liberal and rigidly thorough education
beginning with the rudiments. The inode of
instruction and the course ol study will l»e ar
ranged with a view to accomplish fully the ob

The Elementary Branches—Spelling, Reading,
Writing. Ac., will be carefully alien.led to, and
largely insisted upon as fumiamentel.
The Principal is of opinion that the study of
English Grammar cannot be economically omit
ted in a classical education, and that the shortest
aud most logical method of acquiring other lan
gßages, is first to obtain a fair knowledge of
one’s own.
A thorough course of instruction in Arithme*
tie and other mathematical studies, will be given
during the Session, embracing the shortest and
most approved methods of Practical Analysis,
and ration explanation of all the facts and prin
ciples usually presented in the Text-Books,
l»eing satisfied that the only guaranty of a thor
ough mathematical education is to lay a broad
and soitd foundation at tlie beginning.
The study of the Natural Sciences will be re
strieted to those who have some knowledge of
Mathematics.
In sill subjects taught, a careful attention will
he paid to the natural development of the men
tal faculties, and the logical order of acquit ing
knowledge, taking it for granted that the youth
