1 axe**! TAxs-t! !—At last, the machinery is in
operation, and our people are called on to pay
State and County Taxes for two years. Mr R
W W ootten is the collecting officer, ami has * is
office in the Court House, where he asks all the
citizens of the county to call and se'tle up. It
is very desirable to do the coMeoting.in town «r
far as possible, and avoid travelling about to the
precinct®. If each Tux payer will be accommo
dating enough to pay his taxes to the collector
at his office, in town, this danger and risk will be
avoided. We hope all will do so,as the trouble
to each one is small.
The State Tax for 1867 is three-tenths of one
per cen« urn : for 1868 four tenths, and the county
tax is fifty i>er cent of State tax for the two
years, making in all ten and one half tenths and
then in addition there is the Convention tax of
one tenth. Total ll£ tenth®, or one dollar and
fifteen rants on the one hundred dollars worth
of property.

*er» used upon the farm for all the cereal grain*
and root crops may he made in the following
manner: Take one barrel of pure, finely ground
bone, and mix it with a barrel <>f w.»o< j ashes •
during the mixing, add about three paiNful of
water. Hie heap may be made upon the floor
of an outbuilding or upon the ban fl.*or; and by
the use of a hoe the hone and ashes must he
thoroughly blended together The water added
is just sufficient to liberate the c ustic alkalies,
potash and so la. and tbe*e act upon the gelatine
of the bone, dissolving the little atoms, forming
a kind >,f snip, and fitting it for plant aliment
In this way the most valuable constituents of the
bone ran be made immediately available, and
the addition of potash and soda aids in the form
ation of a fertilizer of inestimable value. A gill
of this mixture placed in a hill of corn wiR work
wonders. It is also excellent for gardens vege
tables and for all kinds of roots. It will be
ready for use in a week after it ig made.

There is too much money j*aid legislating. It
costs the people a great deal more than it comes
to. Nine dollars a day is t«*> high, these ha-d
