The Announcement recently made
that 207 farmers, with their families,
have left England for tho United States
to settle in Texas, is regarded as one.
of the most significant signs of the
times, and indicative, more clearly
than anything else, of the unhappy
condition of aTFutfs in Engfimd and tiie
prosperous future before this country.
It is one of the rarest things in the
world for the regular, full-bbiotled
Englishman to leave his home. He is
more devoted to liis country and his
government than is probably tiie citi
zen of any other country. Ocoasionliy
Individuals will emigrate from the
home government to that of Australia,
or some other British colony, hut this
is not to withdraw themselves from
tlio protection of the kingdom, and
toes not forfeit British citizenship. To
come to America to setlio, however,ls,
as the St. Louis Republican remarks,

ment under which they were born,anil

merable ancestral associations they
have hitherto cherished. With the
single exception of language, and per
haps religion, these farmers will be as
