Brunswick Herald: A negro man
was securely tied across the railroad
track, about four miles north of
Eastman, ou Friday night. The train
came thundering along aud cut his
head from his body. The train stop
ped, and immediately the vicinity
was alive with negroes who had un
doubtedly bound the man to track,
and wero hypocritically lamenting his
death.
At Scncy, on the East Tennessee
road, last Wednesday, a small negro
boy was passing along with a bucket
of water and a negro man asked
him for a drink. Upon being reftised
a scuffle ensued In which the man cut
the boy terribly in several places,
The entter was trailed down with
dogs, caught and lodged in jail at
Cedartown. Tho boy will die.

Although his eyes are not open yet,
says the New York Sun, the big blue
elephant at West Brightou. Coney
Island, received several hundred vis
itors yesterday. The visitors paid
16 cents each to climb up through tiic
elephant’s hind legs and observo a
silk loom which made handkerchiefs
in his stomach. Besides the loom
there Is a doubled-deckcd promenade
in this part of him. By steep stair
cases reared against the elephant's
ribs the visitors climbed into the ob
servatory at his back.
The inside of the elephant is three
stories high, and is lobe tUWd

John McMahon has lieeu employed
by tho leather Manufacturer’s Bank
of Now York, as engineer aud mes
senger. Last Friday afternoou a
package containing $20,006 was
scaled and made ready to lie taken
to the Adams Express office. The
package was addressed to a bank
at Evansville, lud. Contrary to
his usual custom McMahen look ihe
package and le'ft the hank alone to go
to the express office. Il retorted
to the hank half an hour latgr Ad
waited until 4 o’clock, after whichfce
was at liberty to go home. McMa*
lion did lint put ill u appearance
the next morning, but no suspiuien
was aroused a* it was thought he
might be sick. On Monday a tele
gram from Evansville gave notice
that the package of money which
should nave becu received by the
hank in that city early in the day l)ad
not arrived. At the Adams cxpifss

had never been received, An em
ploye of the bank was sent; to Wil
liamsburg to find McMahon, hut he
was told by Mrs. McMahen that she
had not seen her husband since Fri
day morning, and did uot know
where ho was. It was reported at
the bank, where an investigation was
at once made and it beoarno evident
that ho had stolen the money am)
was probably already out of the
country. The ease was immediately
placed in tho hands of detectives, hut
as yet tlmy have obtained no trace of
the fugitive. McMahon is 39 years
old, Is married aud has several cbil—
drou.
