SUICIDE IN CEDARTOWN.
A dispatch of the 7th from Cedar
town, Ga.,10 the Atlanta Constitution,
says: Mr. A. H. Stoffregeit, of this
place, took lus own life this morning
bv shooting himself through tho head.
About nine o'clock he entered the law
office ol Blanch & Noyes, who were
the only, occupants, aud without a
word drew a pistol from 'his pocket
and fired at Noyes, tho shot merely
passing through Noves’ coat. Then
leaving the office, he descended the
stairway to the street, and after
walking a distance of fifty yards,
placed hia own pistol to his temple,
fired and fell prostrate on the walk
aud died, in about fifteen minutes.
Stofl'regetj was surety iu a trover
and bail ease, in which Noyes was
plaintiff, and the bad blood between
them grew out of the suit by which
Slofl'regeit’s property was to have this
day been sold.

FROM mtEt TO A CELL,
A Trio of Hank Caableri In Prison.
A recent dispatch from Hartford
Conn., says: The three Norwich
bank cashiers, Meech, RoatH and
Webb, who lived in luxury on iho
proceeds of their crimes, now sleep
in .dreary cells and labor daily in
tbe prison workshop, forbidden to
converse with any one or even to
raise their eyes when visitors arc
present. Mcech is haggard and hoi
lowed-eyed and his dean shaven
face and close-cropped hair gives
him the appearance of a man many
years beyond his age. He works at
a bench; eutfltigoiH the thin leather
gussets used <o line the heels of
shoes. Roath is in the same shop,
confined to the irksome tisk of burn
ithing the soles of shoes. Ilis lux
uriant black liai. and heavy black
mustache have disappeared and few
would recognize in him the tall, thin,
white face man, witli large dark eyes
strangely contrasting with his pal
lor the prepossessing William Roath
cashier of lhc Shelucket National.
Webb, portly and with some linger
ing traces of dignity even in hi.
rough prison suit, has for his daily
work the setting of nails into shoes
heels preparatory to placing them un
der the nailing machines. His white
hair and mustache are no more.
Many old friends call on them from
time to time, but Iho trio receives no
favorp beyond those accorded other
well behaved prisoners. The wife
and family of Meech have removed
from Norwich to a residence near
the prison that they may see him
more frequently. The prisoners are
permitted to smoke in their cells, and
the three cashiers are kept well sup
plied with cigars.

produced by it.
