<r In Our Puhttc Schools Elected
Principe I ofthe Woshlntn
High School.
Miss Ida Young, for several years
a popular and accomplished teacher
in the Augusta Pttbiio Schools, but
for the past twe years one ofthe mest
devoted and brilliant students in the
great Normal Institute for toaoherk
in Nashville Tennessee has been e
-lecled as principal of the Washington
High School.
This announcement will be receiv
ed with mingled regret and gratifica
tion in Augusta, where she is highly
esteemed and whern her return was
confidently expected. But as might
have been expected, her natural gifts
and unusual accompllshmcuts have
been known to tho appreciative and
highly cultivated pooplcofold Wilkes
and the trustees of one ot the finest
und most important high schools ini
tho State have selected her to take
charge of the educational interests
ill that beautiful city.
>ye can say in truth acd knowing
ly that this is a most conspicuous
and fit recognition of merit, and we
sincerely congraulato the good peo
ple of Washington as well as tho wor
thy yoang lady who has boen se high
ly complimented. To extraordinary
nativo gifts Miss Young lias added a
rare devotmn to her profession and*
tho extomMkud higher cultivation
to be in the school fqr
brings the
ougli a>ni is
liable ofHK to college classes
as well the responsible
dutjea of school. It Is thus
very natural that she should go high
er in her great work where s.ho is de
stined Ip ililnc in a brilliant and full
orbed career, and it isa reasonable cop
seijneniie that a position in our pub
lic school system is to small for an
honor graduate and rull-fledged li
centiate of instruction from the Nash
ville Normal Institute.
This recognitionpf tha worth and
ability of the young women of our
section, is especially pleasing to us,
for we know full woll that they are,
quite as capable as the other sex to
fill satisfactorily and wltn distinction
any of the posts authority iitotiy ed
ucational system. This tribute to
Miss Young, however, is especially
complimentary, for she is hardily past
her majority, ‘ln years, and nought
blit pure merit and extraordinary
mental aoility Could win such a re
ward oearly in life. ’ f
We, in Augusta, very muefi
to give tis a young lady of such rate
promise and popularity, but we wish
Miss Young the most unbounded hap
piness and success in Washington,
where she will have chai'ge of • t|-

cient assistants in her high and re
sponsible work.—Augusta Evening
