ODDS AND ENDS.
Rather contradictory —Gay’s grave.
Spots on the sun—Freckles on your
boy’s face.
A woman who tells fortunes from a
tea*cup is a saucercss.
People who are always wanting some
thing new, should try neuralgia.
The dressing-gown is the most lasting
* of all garments; it is seldom worn out.
A Kentucky named his six
teenth child, recently born, Omega,
hoping it will be the last.
is not always won by long and
hard toil. A moment's insight is some
times worth a life’s experience.
Two beings are joined by love as two
words by a printer’s hyphen—sign at
once of separation and connection.
“Where are the men of ’76 ?” shouted
a stump-orator. “Dead,” responded a
sad-lookiug man in the middle aisle.
What was the proverb that King
Lear heard from the lips of his two
daughters ?—Go father and fare worse.
A Soranton household is enjoying an
era of peace. The lady of the house
put her tongue to a flat-iroD to see if it
was hot.
When Shakspeare's mother wished
him to confess a theft what distinguish
ed character did she .hold up before
him ?—William Tell.
Mrs. J. A. Dunniwav wants to bo
Mayor of Poitland, Oregon. She says
it is high time the prejudices of the past
were Dunniway with.
The old gentleman who put his postal
card in a stamped envelope is matched
by an Omaha man who has his rnoncy-
Orders sent by registered letter.
To men of a poetical nature, life is
apt to become a desert, in whose undu
lating air, as in that of other deserts, ob
jects appear both wavering aud gigantic.
_lt is a remarkable fact that the mo
ment a woman writes a letter she is
frantic to put it in the post-office,
although she may have bcon putting
off the writing for six months.
Boston ladies put on clean stockings
when they have their photographs taken.
A philosopher is trying to study out the
reason. But the most interesting point
of inquiry is, how did the reporter learn
the fact ?
A man, caught fishing for trout on
another mail’s land, completely silenced
the owner, who remonstrated, with the
majestic answer, “Who wants to catch
your trout? lam only trying to drown
this worm.”
In a recent article on a fair in bis
locality, the editor of a Western paper
says a brother editer took a valuable
premium, but an unkind policeman
made him put it right back where he
took it from.
Mr. Blanchard Jerrold is engaged,
with the special sanction of the Em
press Eugenic, on “The Life and Times
of Napoleon the Third.” the first part
of which, illustrated with portraits from
the family collection, will appear about
the end of the year.
A singular medieval ceremony was
revived recently near Greenwich, Eng
land, by the christening of a ncwly
launched vessel which had been built
for the Government of Chili. The cere
mony was performed by one of the
priests attached to the Church of St.
Mary at Greenwich, and a young lady
of Chilian parentage stood as sponsor i
for the ship. A party of ladies and
gentlemen, mostly ltoman Catholics,
were present on the occasion. Instead
of breaking a bottle of wine against the
bows of the vessel as is the usual cus
tom, the priest went round the upper
and main decks, preceded by a body of
acolytes and choristers, who saug the
Benedictus while the priest sprinkled
the timbers of the good ship with holy
water, iD the name of the holy and un
divided Trinity, and the “baptism' 1 was
complete. A luncheon on board follow
ed as a matter of course. It is supposed
that this is the first instance of the pub
lic baptism of a vessel since the Refor
mation, or, at all events, since the Rev
olution of 1688. though the baptism of
Church bells has been occasionally re- |
vived of late years

BANKRUPTCY NOTICE.
All persons affected by the re
cent decisions ol' the Supreme Court of the
United States, declaring the laws of Georgia as lo
Slave Debts, Homestead, Exemptions 'ind Tax Af
fidavits, to be unconstitutional, can be fully protect

Having recently paid ranch attention to these laws,
and the practice in Courts of Bankruptcy, I am pre
pared, and can procure discharges from all old
debts, and secure to Debtors the benefits of all
KXEMPTIONS RECOGNIZED BY THE LAWS OF GEORGIA,
in 1870 As tc debts made since Jan. 1, 1860, the
law is this: If the bankrupt can pay 60 per cent,
on the dollar of these, he will be entirely discharged
from them; If not, they continue subsisting debts
against him, to be paid hereafter, should be ever
become able; but do not prevent him from going
into bankruptcy, as above stated.

Notwithstanding the increase in the price of

the plans for the coming year, as unfolded by the

the most sanguine friends of The Aldinc.
The publishers arc authorized to announce de--

In addition, The Aldinc will reproduce ex

The quarterly tinted plates, for 1373 will re
