JL correspondent of the Knoxville Press and

wagons and horses. The coontry people are
glAd to get back to town, and the congratula

generally and their custcmera are mutual and
cordial.
What is known as the miniotetial associa
tion of the Methodist Episcopal Church met
in Jonesboro, last week, and onr citizens en
joyed the preaching of some of their best
ministers.
The nights here are getting quito cool, sug
gesting blankets, feathers, Ac. But for the
impression that there would be no Supreme
Court at the regular term, a number of onr
lawyers would have left for your city this week.
We will not loose anything if we get a special
term in November. This will give clerks and
attorneys time to get ready in those counties
w here business has been interrupted this sum
mer. Peaches are abundant here lor canning,
preserving, Ac., but none to dry. The po
tato crop is being gathered, aud the yield
never was better. Thia is so of the sweet and

The same paper also says that the three
men trom Hancock county who were arrested
Tuesday evening for circulating raised notes
through the city, had a trial in the Criminal
Court room yesterday, before ‘Squire Ochs.
The three men who have been arrested—
John Green, George Lawson and John Col
lins, all live near Sneedville, Hancock coun
ty, came to the city in company, and were to
gether when the raised bill was passed off on
John KibSer, on Gay street. During the
course of the trial, yesterday, it was discover
ed that Collins had no complicity in the fraud
but merely followed the other two around the
city, utterly ignorant, perhaps, of their de
signs. He was therefore discharged, and al
lowed to retnrn home. John Green and
Geoige Lawson, aitei a foil trial, were found
gni'iy aud bound over to the next term of the
criminal court, undei bond of $1,000 each,
in default of which they were remanded to

There are many people at Sedamsville, near
Cincinnati, who are living witnesses to the ap

man as well as a bumble Christian, and it
looked to many that his light was hidden
under a bushel in the hermitage of Sedams
ville. He was, however, a very pious man,
and though sometimes shadowed by spells of
gloom, he went about bis appointed work
uncomplainingly. One day be was going to
