We are glad to know that Mr. Vaughn is to remain in our city. Central Democratic Club.—'Tlito club had a very pleasant meeting last night. It was ad dressed by Hon. C. 13. Woolen in a capital speech. We have not the space to give a re port of the address. The usual business tfas transacted by the club. The following are the committees ap pointed by the President: ON ENROLLMENT. First Ward—T. U. At a previous meeting, Mr. Archie McQueen was elected Vice President of the Second Ward, but he being absent from the city, necessitated a change, and Mr. John G. Dcitz was appoint ed in his stead. Revue De La Mode.—Our lady readers who 60 greatly missed the Die Modenwelt will be glad to know that a journal by the above name, and published in Paris, has taken its place as a modeler of fashions. The number before us is replete with all the necessary hints, and a beau tifully colored fashion plate. Messrs. Brown & Cos. have it for sale. The Fall Campaign. The llrst individual we will interview this morning will be Hertz, of the firm of HERTZ, VIRGIN & CO., Who keep themselves in readiness to give eve rybody fit 9. Not that they are at all disposed to light, as a cleverer set of gentlemen never measured you for a suit of clothes. The very latest styles in the fashionable world are kept by them. With a hearty laugh over that joke Hertz knows so well how to tell, we bid him good day and 6tep into the BALTIMORE CLOTHING HOUSE, Under the management of M. Hirsch <fc Bro. Sol has very recently returned from Baltimore and New York, where he searched the entire market to find stock for his large Macon trade. Their store is filled to overflowing with suits of the latest cut, and gent’s furnishing goods. The cellar is also stocked with boxes waiting to be opened. These fellows occupy a good stand, and do a driving business. We then go further down Second street and walk into the old established house of WINSHIP & CALLAWAY. There is something solid about this concern that wins you to it on first sight. The two gen tlemen who compose the firm are of the best citizens of the city, and fair dealing with every body, and keeping a stock of the very best to be had, has won for them an enviable reputa tion. Their stock of clothing comprises every thing in the line. Gentlemen can at this place secure a complete outfit, and at a cost nearly nominal. Farther on, is the tailoring house of r. L. SHEA. It here that our Beau Bruminclshavethoir graceful figures measured with nicety for the latest and most fashionable suits. Shea is in dispensable. We could not do without him.— In looking over his stock of goods we were struck with the beauty of some of his cos tumes ju&t received, and to be made up into fall suits. Nearly every shade of cloth and thickness of texture can be found here. THE MACK BROTHERS keep just below Bhca, and arc two of the clev erest young men in the city; always polite and accommodating, we never heard an ill-word expressed concerning them. Their particular line of business is fancy goods, notions, etc. Gents’ underwear is a specialty with them and their sis a fine stock. The ladies arc not for gotten by these gentlemen, and a great variety of fancy articles are kept on hand for their benefit No one ever regretted purchasing from the Mack brothers. e then cross &ver and interview THOMAS T. CONNER. * Mr Conner is one of the few young men who has the interests of the city at heart. He workftr 1h anythin"; he undertakes. Ilia line of business ie furnishing goods. His hat stock is undoubtedly the finest in Macon. Ladies’ furs is a specialty with him and he has a large stock of all kinds on hand. Like everything else we do, these sketches are written in a harry, and if we fail to put in die niebi word, forgive us. We will now close * Btl to ' morrow wi| l continue our Third Congresional Convention. The convention assembled In the reading room of Brown's Hotel, this raornlug, at 11 o'clock, Gen. Ira A. On adjourning, Gen. Foster thanked the meeting for the honor conferred upon him by electing him to the chair, and for their atten tion. The meeting adjourned sine die. The Isaac-s House.—That jolly gentleman and alFnblo host of this famous house, speaks a few words to the traveling public, and especial ly those of our farming friends who visit Ma con for the purpose of bringing in their pro ducts or making purchases. It is well known that the Isaacs House possesses peculiar advan tages over others, from the fact that it is con ducted upon the European plan, and with all conveniences, within one’s reach. Besides these, it is situated within a stone’s throw of all the leading stores, which is a great advan tage. Twelve large and airy rooms have recent ly been added to the house, thus affording fam ilies every opportunity of enjoying home life as fur ua poaaiblu wluiii away hoiuo. Polil* and attentive employes are only employed, while the table —well, its fame is too wide to require any laudation at our bands. Taken all in all, the Isaacs House is a place to stop at and to stop at again. Oliver, Douglas & Cos. —This is one of the standard houses of Georgia. Established long years ago, it now has position in tho front rank of dealers in hardware, stoves and house furnishing goods. Backed by ample capital, and still more ample financial standing, the stock kept always upon their shelves, on their floors and in their warehouse, is simply com mensurate with the demands of the trade. Wc recommend our friends to them most cordially. Council Proceedings. Cai.l Meeting, I Council Chamber, Sept. 17, 1872. J Present—Hon. W. A.
