Mr. Greer, the Superintendent „.f the Street Car Cos., will run cars before and after ttio evening and afternoon performances. The Election. —This affair iB all the talk on the streets to-day. Some anticipate a rough (vhl time, others a peaeeable election. Majoi jiuif, with his usual precaution, issues a pro clamation that sounds like he will do his leve jicst to have peaco and order. Music.—We refer our readers to ttie adver tisement of Prof. Gnosspelius. With an expe rience of twenty-two years in teaching, and the reputation of being the finest musician in the South, entitles him to a liberal patronage. Grand Opening.—The room recently occu pied by Collins & Little as a carriage reposito ry o.n Cherry Street is now being overhauled remodelled by Mr. George Boggs, who tuteuds tu have therein deposited by Wednes day or Thuraday morning next, the finest stock of Fancy and Staple Groceries to be •found in the city. Give him a call if you would sue something nice. jy (;T So.—The impression prevails among iu><l many of our fireman that they are ex cwpt from poll tax. 'this is a mistake. They arc only exempt from road tax levied by the city. Go to Use collector and pay your tax. Shall Bilib be given to t||P Rads because you fail to pay up your tax. Bo ashamed of your self and pay it. jlfcoeflNteh in Twiggs.—Last Friday night, social gathering in Twiggs county, near Gordon, a Mr. Moore was seriously wounded ty a pistol shot through the bowels, by Joel Whitehurst. Whit hurst made his escape, but they are now hnnting for him through the jcoantry. We are indebted to Mr. Frank Balkeom for these particulars. General Moving Day.—According to cus tom, to-morrow is our general moving day, and our streets will be filled with dray loads of fur niture and household ware. Plenty of houses to rent, however, and plenty to be filled.— Housekeepers will get mad, landlords rub their pond* with joy, and the draymen will wish the first of October came every month. We wish 11 a good house, low rent and a temper-less dfl y- -a School of Reform.—The usual Monday morning crowd was in attendance at his Hon or's levee this morning. We failed to note, fiowcyer, the customary faces of those who took a wee dhrap too much of tho creetur. 'fills mußt be seen into; it will never do for them to go baek on us. To steal is the highest ambition a little nig would reach; it is his delight, his joy, his very life—and thus it was witli Henry Roofer. He aw a nice little pistol lying in a bureau drawer dolug nothing, and Henry thought everything j n that shape should not revel m idleness, so iic took It in out of the wet—to use a classical expression. Perhaps he did not sell it for *2 50, but it looked so to a man whose courage had carried him up a tree. As nothing posi tive was proved against liitn, Henry waß al lowed to go his way. Of ail the crimes set down in the calendar, none are so heinous as wife whipping. As Wiilie Shakspeare truthfully says— “ Man that would strike a woman Save in the act of kindness ’Twould be base flattery to call him coward.’ Rut Jackson Harris had no acquaintance with Old Shake, and went and cuffed Mrs. Harris around considerably. In consideration at the fact that Jackson wus sorry, a small fine of $25 was imposed. James Holstein a white boy of eleven sum mers, and James Nelson Pbienix, a young Grant voter upon whose head the frosts of ten mild winters had fallen were all the time med dling each other. They reside with their par ents in East Macon. These tender shoots were in the habit of pulling each others’ wool or poulticing each others’ backs with abrick, and one day, while in a state of “ abstractedness,” James had the misfortune to threaten to vacci nate the little nig with No. 2 birdshot. This allusion to the increase of the mortuary list having come within earshot of the nig’s fond rna, she had young Mr. Holstein up. With a severe reprimand and a request that each of their respective mas should cut their eyeteeth, the Mayor bade them git, which they did.
