No Paler To-morrow.—ln common With other employers, we will suspend business to morrow in order to ullow the firm and employ ees an opportunity of voting and working for the Democratic party. e feel the importance of every shoulder to the wheel, und thus lend our humble aid to elect our candidates. Our advertisers will Ipso nothing by the sus pension. Lively.—From tlie number of wagons in town to-day, one would think our city some pumpkins. The circus is perhaps tlie magnet. The Weather continues to smack greatly of Winter. Summer clothes are being laid away and warmer apparel brought out to be aired. The Great Eastern. —The procession this morning was first-rate. The steam piano is a success and gives forth good music. The band played well. Go and sec tlie show to night. Too Muun of a Good Thing.—A friend of ours has received a summons to serve us a Traverse juror for Bibb Superior Court which begins October 28tli, and one from the U. 8. District Court at Savannah which begins Oc tober 31st. Now which will he serve on! It is a question for somebody. Change of Firm. —We are pleased to note that our friends, Messrs. Small and Gamble, have taken into partnership that clever and in dustrious young man, Mr. Andrew Beck. Mr. B. is ft young man, well thought of by every body, and we beg to congratulate him on his new position. We trust lie will acquire the thorough knowledge of the grocery and com mission business possessed by his gentlemanly partners. f > Lamp Explosion.—Last night, about 7% o'clock, while the family of Mrs. T. A. Han is were at supper, a kerosene lamp that had been left lighted on a bureau in one ©f the bed rooms, exploded, igniting tbe mosquito net ting, and burning the top of the bureau and nearly all the bed-clothes on tbe bed. The flame reached the wood work of tbe window, when it was seen by some gentlemen who kind ly lent their aid to extinguish it. But for this timely interference, there would have been, perhaps, a large lire. This was the cause of the alarm last night. Court.—The attendance at tlie Court this morning was not as large as usual owing, per haps, to the circus coming in town last night. Three young ladies, who looked as if they were without a local habitation, gave their names as Katie Clark, Ollie O’Neal and Eddie Danscy. They had indulged in too much of that which inebriates, and were found by an officer using cuss words and endeavoring to pull each other’s wool. For this breach of the peace they will contribute to the city ex chequer $2 each. Eugene Campbell had a vague idea that he had been up before his Honor on several ac cusations, and every time for fighting. Thiß time he caressed tlie cheek of a colored lady with his fists and pays $lO and costs. Then we lit our regalia and sauntered among the common people in search of items. The Speech of TnE Campaign.—Col. Har deman’s address last night was one of his best efforts. He made an earnest appeal to tlie peo ple, and he explained the importance for unan imous action on their part, to which they can not fail to respond at the ballot box to-morrow. The Colonel threw aside metaphor and formal ity, and gave his large and enthusiastic audi ence oue of the old-time speeches, and that speech went right to their hearts, and its logic was so forcible that resisting it was out of the question. The old story of Bullock’s adminis tration was told in new words, new style, and —well, as only Hardeman could tell it. The dangers that would environ us if defeated—tlie victory that would perch upon our banners if our candidates were elected, were given in a masterly manner. All honor to Tom Hardeman. A harder worker in the great cause of Democracy cannot be found within tlie borders of old Georgia. At the conclusion of the address, Mr. A. O. Bacon was loudly called for, who delivered a forcible, logical and patriotic address. These addresses aroused the people to a sense of their danger, and, we believe, will cause u great many men to vote who did not intend doing so before. — Ilrovvil Hotel Arrival©. The Circus.— lf there ever was a bigger fool about a circus than us we would like to sec him. Wc can’t help it. It sticks to us through thick and thin, through poverty uud affiucnco, and through obscurity and prominence. It is like Slnbad’s old man of tlie sea, it can’t be shaken off. When lids incubus will cease to bang over us, time alouc will demonstrate. And accordingly we loaf around the circus men, ready to render any favor from a chew of tobacco to bringing a bucket of water. Any thing they ask us to do, wc would run tlie risk of getting our alabaster-like buck metamor phosed into something resembling the “Bar Strangled Spanner” at home, or our rations cut short for a month to go to tlie circus. Tlie birch wo feared not. It was an Instrument by which wo oped our exquisitely chiseled mouth and cried aloud and our cerulean, azurluo und beautiful eyes to leak water, but to tlie circus we would go. Now that wc have reached that age at which the upper lip bears forth tlie hirsute ornament, and our pliant mind is sorely troubled w ith visions of prosperity, etc., wc content ourself witli watching ouryoungers and note tlie same manifestations of joy and glory that so en riched our youthful mind with circus lore and parental restriction. We gaze witli rapture upon the lithe form of the little nig, in his ab breviated shirt, as lie hops on one leg “so glad do circus come.” Then we notice him importuning his mother for tlie necessary stamps to give him a glimpse at the inside workings of tlie machine. Ho puls his hands between Ins knees, bends his body forward witli head on oue side and rocks upt:> her witli a grin and between smiles and grins says : “Muvver, Ise want ter saw dcr show.” “G’long chile and quit dat foolishness, I aint got no money to. frow away on dat ting; I has to work for my livin’, dat I do, and hard, too Go'ii way, tell yer, you’se jest eetcliing fur a frasliing an’ if you fool wld me you’ll git it.” “Now, muvvcr,” (.the rocking increases, while the grins grow broader) If yer jes gib lae half a dollar dis time, me won’t nebber pester yer agin; please muercr, jes die time, please.” “Well, here’s de money; don’t yer cum to mca gin, yer nasty stinking little brat! (brat jumps jim crow and grins louder) yer let me ketch yer wantin’ to go to any more o’ dein circuses an’ I’ll peel yer—mind what I tell yer.” And “muvver” continues her washing, hum ming that old familiar song— “l aint or gwine ter stay here long Ise gwine ter go away An’ blow iny horn wid Ga bri el On resereorruction day.” While little nig first turns a somersault, then tries to stand on his head, happier than a big sunflower and feeling like he was big as “Gin eral Grant” or any other man. Away he goes to the show and there is not a sight that es capes his quick observing eye, nor a word ut tered that he does not drink down. But here we are giving circuses a longer puli' than ne cessary, and so wc close, wishing as we, and every other man has— “Oh, would I were a boy again.” Watermelons.—Wo notice a lot of these chill-bombs on the streets for sale. If you want to cat one, buy a bottle of chill medicine ill ad vance. That Ullmuii is a handsome man My mind is very clear And what he drinks to make him so Is Cincinnati beer; Ilis lunches are tlie best in town You eat them late and soon, You’ll find Rhine wine and Seltzer, too, At the Isaacs House Saloon. J T is universally conceded that advertising is a necessity to success iu business; it is also conceded, by the shrewdest business men, that newspapers are the best medium for reaching all parties whose trade is desired. THE MONItOE ADVERTISER reaches more of the people trading with Ma con than any other journal published in the country; it Is, therefore, the best medium of communication with the planting interests. We will be happy at any time to furnish refer ences to leading merchants here and elsewhere, who will testify to the fact that they have re ceived orders for goods from parties who read their cards hi The Adivi Hmt. In fact, many who have availed themselves of its columns, candidly say that its value exceeds that of all other journals in which they are represented. The Advertiser lias tlie freshness of youth and tlie ripeness of age, and is therefore deservedly successful. CHARACTER OK ADVERTISEMENTS. No advertisements are admitted which arc not believed to he uhove question and of real value, ami from parties so unquestionably re liable that tlie readers of The Advertiser will lie safe in ordering them from any distance.
