Filling Up.—The Central Railroad is fill ing up the excavations at the foot of Cherry Street, and thereabouts. - Holmes and Clay’s Stables are offered for sale and you can’t scare up a better bargain, Tub Concert.—Preparations go bravely on and tbe concert promises to be all that we. can wish. P.cmember the social dance. Ready fob Business.— Nearly all of our merchants have received their fall stock, and are ready for business. Shut Up.—All business is suspended to day, by our Israelitish friends, this being a day of Atonement with them. ♦♦ Thanksgiving Day.—ln another column will be found Grant’s proclamation declaring the 28th of November next a day of thanks giving. Of course the day will be generally observed. New Church.—The new Mission Church of St. Barnabas will be opened for Divine service to-morrow at 9a. m. Sermon by Rev. B. John son, Rector of Christ church. Seats free ; all are invited. Cotton Stealing.— Numberless little nigs prowl around our cotton warehouses and light upon a piece or sample of cotton like a lsawk does on a chicken. They arc seldom caught, they are such adepts at the business. Neat Signs.—Our friends, Greer Lake & ■ Cos. have treated themselves to two neat signs for their express wagon. Windham & Cos. are the artists. Personal.—W. B. Johnston, Mrs. E. W. ' and Masters J. G., R. and Joe, and Misses M. J. and E. M. Collins regieteied at the Pulaski House Savannah, on Thursday last. Not the Time —Our young friends, Pendle ton & Ross have so many pretty things in their store and have been kept so busy attending to tlieir customers that they have not had time to put them away. Boxes full of goods crowd the store and no time to unpack them. ■ Bitten by a Dog.—Wc learn this morning that a little son of Mr. Milo S. Freeman was severely bitten by a dog yesterday. The dog was eating when the little fellow went up to him and patted him on the head, when the dog jumped and lilt the boy in several places. ■ . • As Usual. —Brown & Cos. will be open to morrow at the usual hour. H. M. Brown, or “Old Baldy” as the Corporal calls him, will arrive from New York to-night, and will be pleased to see his friends. We hope Baldy, Burr and Bob will have as much to attend to as they wish. Extension of the Park —We noticed Mr. R. B. Barfield this morning superintending the extension of the Central City Park. The pres ent enclosure covers 130 acro6, and the exten sion the same number—making 200 acres in all. Now if a little money could be spared, whst a splendid Park Macon could boast of. Mavor’s Court.— Mat Stacy, a lady of the doubtful color, was the only person who came up before his Honor this morning. She had taken too much aboard and as she plead guilty she will pay $5 and costs or spend thirty days calling beautiful pokeberry tlowcrs from the lonely drives of the park. Oodet for November. —Messrs. Brown * Cos , und -I. W. Burke & Cos., have laid upon our table the November number of this charm ing chronicler of everything nice for the ladies. Godcy excels In every number, and the copy Ix'f ire us is a gem in its way. Kiuued for Awhile. —Me understand that while some colored boys were playing base ball at the old Fair Ground, Thursday after noon, one of them was struck in the heud by a bat and laid dead for an hour. This manner of hurting another fellow's feelings mnst be stop- P'l The Macon Enterprise is one of our favor ite exchanges, but we look in vain over its pages for something to comment upon. The election riot in Macon has been atiod-send; thru, over, the newsmongers have settled down to their lager and pretzel. —Snrannah Evening Mirror. We shut our eyes and let the world wag. We don’t care for items—wc arc happy. All those who go poking around lifting items can go on—wc had one item this month and we are contented. Returned. —W. T. Brown, Esq., picture maker, returned this morning from his sleeping quarters, on Tronp Hill, and is much improved in Fire Art works. That’s a very healthy coun try out there. It’s very pleasant to walk a mile twice a day, hut mnch more pleasant to know yon can get the hestand cheapest Photo graphs at - No. 8 Cotton Avenue. Becoming Popular.— From the way every body is taking to that Ginger Ale of Ullman’s, It must tic becoming popular. Well, the Cin cinnati Beer is first-rate, and that Rhino Wine and Seltzer Water is not had, neither are thoae Oyster, on the half-shell. Isaacs House Sa loon. It Carlo*.— We have to beg the pardon of the Don for BCgleetlng to mention him. He got tired of waiting and hua sent us the following note which wo can’t get around publishing: Mr. Bocal' Having waited until my patience was well nigh exhausted for you to mention me ami my establishment In your puper, I have arrived with checked baggage at the conclusion that “if you don’t want anything done, send somebody to do it; if you want any thing done, do It yourself,’’ and as a sequence, please publish this note. It is hardly necessary for me to inform you that I have on hand a large stock of the neces saries and luxuries of life; as you are a frequent sampler of my stock, you ought to know that. But should anyone else doubt it, tell them to call at my house and be convinced. Ido not order my goods, for those fellows up North will poke anything off on a fellow. Not wishing to poke off on my customers, 1 buy my goods in person and sample everything myself, from brandy to Limburgcr cheese While in New York recently 1 made arrange ments to supply my restaurant with prarire chickens and every other delicacy that could sweeten the tooth of the highest liver; in fact, I will spare neither pains nor expense to satisfy everybody in this line. My fish and fruit arrangements arc the best that can lie perfected. I receive the first ill the market and always keep a supply. As soon aa an oyster gets ripe enough to pull from the parent tree, my agent sends it to me by tele graph. Should an orange appear In my agent’s eye large enough to rake from its little bed, it is instantly packed ill iec and shipped to Carlos. When such berries a< lemons, bananas, eggs and chickens ripen, who gets them ahead of Carlos V Echo answers—nobody! But as ev erybody in Macon knows this to he a fact, I will close by saying “thankee” to my old cus tomers and “come and try me” to my new ones. Yours, W. P. Carlos. Wax Elba uni AND Brother.—Tills mammoth Dry Goods House is truly one of tbe greatest in all tlic Southern country. We doubt if there are many which are more extensive on tho North American continent outside of New York and Philadelphia, and even in those cities there are not many carrying heavier stocks or doing a larger trade. Occupying the centre of Triangular Block running through from Second street to Cot ton Avenue, and fi om cellar to roof, there arc five grand divisions to the establishment. The cellars or ground rooms are used for packing and unpacking goods for all depart ments and for the storage of Domestics. The right hand floor above is the chief whole sale department, and here we find a ship load of Prints, Domestics, Alpaceas of all colors, Janes, Bleachings, Shirtings, Stripes, Cheeks, Ginghams, Fancy Dross Goods, Red and White Flannels, Opera Flannels, Tickings, Brown Coods, Corsets, Linscys, Poplins, and so on, running through the entire catalogue. On tlie left is the general Retail Room, and a busy scene it always presents, morning, noon and night. It would be much easier to tell what is not in there than what is. It contains among other things the largest stock of silks in Georgia—some of them running as high as SIOO per pattern. Our ladies can find anything there from an inch of ribbon to a cashmere shawl. The two floors above are set apart for ready made clothing, hoots, shoes, hats, shawls, hosiery, gloves, linens, shirts, balmoral skirts, cloaks, blankets, quilts and notions ad infini tum. But it is useless to call every article by name, it would take up half the apacejn our paper. Dealers must go and see for themselves. A su perficial glance makes one think there is enough on hand to supply the whole trade of Macon for months to come, and yet so great is the trade of the house, it is necessary to send off new orders for fresh supplies almost every day in the week. Scarcely a steamer leaves New York for Savannah without having con signments for “S. W. & 8., Macon.” The Senior requests us to make the positive statement as a fact that they sell at New York prices. We found the house this morning full of country merchants and citizens, and every clerk just as busy as he - could be; and no wonder, for such a stock as that will attract people to it the dullest day in the week, and at this season no one wishing to purchase will go by it. A large capital, industry, the most scrupu lous honor, and a long series of years devoted to the business, has placed this house in the front rand of Dry Goods Dealers In Georgia. It is known far and wide as such atd will continue to be for a long time to come. ootG Ilw Something New. —With* his usual enter prise Ullman, the popular caterer to the deli cate palate, has introduced into Macon anew drink, called Ginger Ale. This a popular bev erage among the Scotch, and BUits this latitude to aT. This with his fine oysters on the half shell, and his Cincinnati Beer, Rhine Wine and Seltzer Water and those palutablc Lunches, can he fonrid at the Isaacs House Saloon.
