Kemumiwk the Concert on the 18t,h.
Cool. —This moruing came as near being Me
eeinber us posaible. Some few overcoats were
in treat demand.
*♦ ♦- ———
Tua Sysaoooue.—They have gone I 1 work
in earnest on the synagogue, and it will not be
long before the walla will begin to show.
To Atlanta.—Our brother loeal went to
Atlanta yesterday morning to whip W hidbj for
exaggerating the size of our mosquitoes.
On the Improve.—Workmen are engaged
in repairing the aidewalk in front of the Lanier
House.
Personal.—Cel. Herbert Fielder, of Cuth
bert, ia in the city, at the Brown House.
Hon. B. H. Hill, of Atlanta, and Hon. John
Screven, Mayor of Savannah, were in the city
yesterday.
-
Gas Liohtbr. —Among the novelties Mr.
Brown brought with him from the North ia a
contrivance to light gas-burners by means of
electricity. It consists of a simple aflair at
tached to the burner, and the way it saves
matches is a caution. Call and see it to-night.
The Torso Men and Ladies who desire to
learn or perfect themselves in the Terpsicho
-1 can art, are invited to attend a meeting for that
purpose at Ayres’ Hall to night, at 7'.f o’clock.
This invitation is cordially extended hr Mad.
McLananaga and Prof. Allraon.
-
Mayor's Court.—Unusual for Monday, but
i wo caßea came up this morning.
John Henderson stole a pistol, hut the ease
was continued.
John Davis snatched a coat and vest from
Hertz, Virgin A Co’s store and run. He ran
into the hands of an officer who brought him
up this morning. He pays *35 and costa, or
digs dirt on the street for thirty days.
Cnr Bill Posters.—Brown A Cos., with
their usual enterprise have secured the exclu
sive bill-postership of Macon, being regularly
licensed by the city. This is anew wrinkle in
Southern cities, but it is a good iden. Circus
scs, theatres and shows of all kinds will find
Messrs. Brown A Cos., gentlemanly, and can
have their pictorials, streamers, dodgers, etc.,
posted in as faithful a manner as if they were
here and superintended in person.
Parties in town having bills to post would
do well to turn the job over to Messrs. B. and
rest satisfied that the work will be done.
This arrangement does away with the old
practice of incompetent posters to paste one
third of the bills in out-of-the places, one third
upside down, over the other third chucked
away in the sewers.
Ecu em unit tbe Concert on the 18th.
Sandy Bottom on Sunday.—Wc had occa
sion to pass Sandy Bottom yesterday, and from
the number of dram shops and groceries that
we found open and doing busi ess, we imag
lned ourselves walking ulong the wicked pur
lieus of Palis. The people seemed to have for
gotten that there was a day of rest, and that
“six daya shalt thou labor.” While wc were
passing, a young man, who evidently had been
soaking himself in the meanest sort of whisky,
was endeavoring, with the assistance of several
others, to get up a fight. He had his coat off,
and with a big stick walked up and down in
front of a bar-keeper’a door, cussing, abusing
and violating tbe sanctity of the Lord's day in
every way possible. Tbe grocery man kept in
side and evaded a collision as longaa he could
Finally, however, he was jerked out, and as he
came out he showed a pistol. This being
grabbed by the irate young man, tbe barkeep
er ran, with the young man and several others
right after. They failed to catch him though.
The party went back to tbe store, brandising
the pistol, whilst the bar-keeper had managed
to get back in his store. His wife, alck and
with a baby in her arms, endeavored to quell
the disturbance, bt they had no respect for
tier sex or condition, and cuss words ran high.
Disgusted at such a eight being enacted within
a stone’s throw of the city limita, we left them
in their glory.
This scene, we arc told, ia but a repetition of
that which occurs every Sunday, and the few
respectable people who are forced to live in the
neighborhood by exhorhitant city landlords,
are the unwilling witnesses of these occur
rences. Spain, with ail her Sunday bull fights,
would blush at the sight.
Somebody should take the matter in hand,
and check the lawleasness of this lovely locality.
Il such things continue, we may prepare our
selves to hear of wholesale murders and the
commission of CTery species of crime.

The GueaT Dry Goods lloi SR or S.
Wg.xEi.HAl M AND Bkotiii:k.-This mammoth
Dry Goods House Is truly one of the greatest
in all the Southern country. We doubt It
there are many which are more extensive on
the North American continent outside of New
York and Philadelphia, and even in those
cities there arc not many carrying heavier
stocks or doing a larger trade.
Occupying the centre of Triangular Block
runniug through from Second street to Cot
ton Avenue, and bom cellar to roof, there are
five grand divisions to the establishment.
The cellars or ground rooms are used for
packing anil unpacking goods for all depart
ments and for the storage of Domestics.
The right hand fioor above is the chief whole
sale department, and hero we find a sl.ip load
of Prints, Domestics, Alpaccas of all colors,
Janes, Bleaching?., Sldrtings, Stripe?, Checks,
Ginghams, Fancy Dress Goods, Red and White
Flannels, Opera Flannels, Tickings, Brown
Goods, Corsets, Linseys, Poplins, and so on,
running through the entire catalogue.
On the left is tire general Retail Room, and a
busy scene it always presents, morning, noon
and night. It would be much eu. n r to tell
what is not in there than " hat is. ,t contains
among other tilings the largest stock of silks
in Georgia—some of them running us high as
f 100 per pattern. Our ladies can find auything
there from an Inch of ribbon to a cashmere
shawl.
The two doors above are set apart for ready
made clothing, boots, shoes, hats, shawls,
hosierv, gloves, linens, shirts, balnioral skirts,
cloaks, blankets, quilts and notions nil Infini
tum.
But it i? useless to call every article by name,
it would take up half tbe space in our paper.
Dealers must go aud see for themselves. A su
perficial glance makes one think there is
enough on hand to supply the whole trade of
Macon for months to come, and yet so great is
the trade of the house, it is necessary to send
oil' new orders for fresh supplies almost every
day in the week. Scarcely a steamer leaves
New York for Savannah without having con
signments for “3. tV. A 8., Macon.
The Senior requests us to make the positive
statement as a fact that they *ll o( -'>■ lor*
prise*.
We found the house this morning full of
country merchants and citizens, and every clerk
just as busy as lie could be; and no wonder,
for such a stock as that will attract people to it
the dullest day in the week, aud at this season
no one wishing to purchase will go by it.
A large eapitul, industry, the most scrupu
lous honor, aud a long series of years devoted
to the business, has placed this house in the
front rand of Dry Goods Dealers hi Georgia. It
is known far and wide as such and will continue
to be for a loug time to come. outfl ow

TO BE LEFT TO THE
DECISION OF THE FARMERS.
r rMIE queatiou of caterpillars and its terrible
J_ destruction of the lleecy staple having,
like the great flood of old, abated, u still more
momentons question involves especi >1 consid
eration at the hands of the farmers. For many
longyeurß E. Isaacs has catered to tho wants
of the traveling public; and to the farmers,
the very bone and sinew of our beloved South,
he has taken special pains to make them feel at
home while in the city. His tables are tilled
and the usual “allowancing” is not “allowa
ble.” Indeed you get what you call for and
that without stint. Now the questio i is:
Will tic Farm Sipr Him?
This question is propounded with the con 11
dcnce that will be announced with that little
but expressive monosylable which i- so famil
iar with people enamored of each other
—yes! I'he sturdy farmers knows* too well
the comfort that await him at tbe
ISAACS HOUSE.
To answer otherwise than affirmatively to
the above mentioned question.
While on the subject Mr. Isaacs wishes to
say that his patronage has so inerea. <*d as to
j compel him to provide more ample at fotnino
tions, and that he has leased large and airy
rooms of Huff 1 anew building adjoining his
own. A line bar is attached to this house.

r imIAT nil important, event, the election, having passed away, ami the “ times that tried men
I souls” have merged into the ” piping times of peace”; and Winter has been ushered in
among twitter of lairds and music of the leaves as they full to the ground ; and tiro Summer hav
ing faded away and the weather reduced to something agreeable, I have to announce to my nu
merous and beloved patrons that I have recently returned from an extended trip to New York,
Philadelphia, Poughkeepsie and Weehassan, ami other celebrated markets, where I purchased,
and have now in my store, the largest lot of

wouldn’t have a local for a week. It is almost unnecessary for me to mention the fact that lam
prepared, as ever, to supply Oysters and Hhell-lish of all kinds, from a Crab to a Credeyoystcr.
The finest Kish, fresh and on ice, is kept by me, and sold at living rate's.
In view of the fact that the people of Macon, and those visiting Macon, ore determined to cat
whether they tret anythin# #ood or not, I have prepared myself for the emergency, by making
ample arrangements to have my
