Tlio Daily, Enterprise. MACO*, ., o:t. ij. wt. For the- Enterprise 1 OUR “DOMESTIC" RELATIONS. The old adage runs, •* every civilized man will have a good cook.'" Cooking la not only half lbc battle of living, but U la the key to the citadel of good living.— •• Some cook a w ill atarve placed in the smoke houae—otlicra grow fat off ol no oth er nutrition Iknnadiilt rag," remarked my l.ord I’onauohliy. lint Ihe every ilny matter ol fuel buai ucss is, how can a gfxxl truaty cook be sc cured ? “I have tried no lea* than twen ty black Dinah* ainre the war," *ay* neigh- Vior Orace, “ nnd have found thorn all logucs, pure ami simple. They atenl twice n much aa they cook , what they took la d.iuc indifferently ; if they cannot find re lation* enough to glvo their stealing to, they throw it away—anything to get aliead of me. They regard me and my family a* their mortal enemiea, and do their level tx-st, by wasteful extravagance, to nmke ihe house-bold expenses foot up aa much -i possible at the cud of Ihe month " The story could Ire repeated in alumat ev ery household tu the city of Macon. Til lling gixxt for nothing negro fellows suffer their wive* to c.x>k for while people wiili the expreas understanding that they have the rim of the kitchen - that they to*- *1 lowed the full privilege of boarding there, and eating whatever Die master provide* for the family In such ipiaulity a-- hi* sp- I.elite may require Many good house wive* know all Ibis, hut In deference to tlo feeling* of the rook, or knowing lltlle ol how hard the money is made to pay for these provisions, wink at the thefts iluih committed by Hit lazy, trilling seouudix-l. Nor is he contented witli this. (Is a rogue ever satisfied f) lie must pilfer enough to feed several other* on tlie outside who may come upon the lot A negro is a creature simply without grat itude. If you fail to detect him in his stealings, grant him any uxtia l.tvor foi services performed, tie llieo -despise* you! How few understand tills trail or lliu animal who Is only one remove atxive Die monkey, or to say the most of him, above the gorilla! Those who grant them the least favor, or who bestow nothing In giuliliido, hut pay to them Ihe moment ex nelly the amount duo. and not one cent more, arc 1 l.e ones who never fail to get any number required for any given duly from the [xilsoning of uu enemy up to the burning of u city or the election of n can didate mr President. (iladly would this countiy lid itself of lids class of servants if it could do any hel ler. Hut unfortunately we have enly Hobson's choice —that or nothing. Not quite that either! For recently, many (Swedish servants have made their appear Mice here, offeilng to do every tiling the dusky Dinah lias supposed to lie only capable of doing these hundred years pust Then- is hut ono verdiet pronounced by ilioso wlio bate been able to ohlnin these Swede girls. First of all, they don't Stcul. Second I hey have no disposition to, they do not expect to feed six or seven strapping lazy scoundrels uot In youf employ. And lastly, they arc glad to get Just what you have been paying your former block rogue And. filially iliey know more about cook ing in one iniuute than tliese Africans will iiud out In titty years We bopu these Swedish servants will Ixj encouraged to come ainoug us. W r e have room for a* many a* we will prolia My get, and more tit-aide*. A Hoi se Kxcrr.n Kilitur Hntorpriit :—The duty of all men iu crsry lelnllou of life la to coolly nml calmly consider tbo |>eril that sur lound ami Hie duties the ailufttlou imposes upon them. Mon ought to study to con quer nil prejudice that they may have Hgninal Uils or that person nud do their duty mildly and lirmly. 'Vo aro led to the above reflections because of the oppo silion of some Democrats to the Cincin nati platform, Mr. Greeley's letter of ac ceptance. and to Mr. Greeley. Much opposition seems to ho to the second res olutlon of the platform; it is in these words, "We pledge ourselves to maintain the union of these Slates, emancipation and enfranchisement, (who objects to maintaining n union of those States now ; who would. If they wmld, re establish aln very ami would. II they could, disturb en frauchiscuirnl now ’) sud to oppose auy reopening of tho qnestious settled l>y the 13lh, Hth and IMU suiuudmsuts to the Constitution" Homo uv ihiMio MiuluuliuftiU "are mill and nl, and under a rightful adminlstra lion they would be dwlarad." We are at a low to know which department, or all together, cau decide those amendment* null and void They are a part of tho Con ■tilutiou. juat a* much ao aaany other part of that instrument, whether they were fairly and justly, or fraudulently and un justly euneacd to and incorporated luto the t'oustltutlon. There 1* no power to be found lu the Constitution, giving the (’resident the power to declare amend ments to the Constitution null and void. Congress has ao aacti power Congress cau ouly propose amendment!" to, or change* by a two third* vote. Tlie Su preme Court cannot decide a pin t of the Constitution of tiro Totted Stale* null and void It will take more than the diction of auy man to make amend ments to tbe Constitution null and void. We believe these amendments wore made by force and tliraugh fcmud, a part of Uie constitution, yet they were ratitled. in strict conformity with the forms sud rules of the constitution, or the provisions of the constitution on tbst point, by the sc lion of tbree-ftmrth* of tbs Stall's of the Unltod Slates. No power, no mode, but the power that proposed and the mode by which they were made a [tart of the constitution can make them null aud void, or strike them I torn the constitution To get rid of these amendments, Congress by a two thirds vote, must by resolution propus* amend menu to the constitution destroying them by the action of thrce-fimrthj o‘. the States of the United Htalea. There is uo other way whereby the amendments can be made null aud void. To cry out that these amendments are null and void, is to leai h the people op|v ition to the constitution and educate diem to believe that these amtudmeuU are null and void without going through the forms as above slated to secure that end ** * ■ -i... PRINTING It has been the enstom hetetofore, ami will probably remain so to a great extent, fur oitr merchants and business men generally to send North to have their printing done, simply because it can lx* done there at u little lower figure than here. If our people would discontinue patronizing such men. they would soon see the policy, it not the jus tice. in having their work done at home. Calicos are not manufactured in the South, and hence the merchant must send where it is made, but here we have printing offices all around us, doing work at a very small advance on northern prices, and still the work is sent away. We hope the time is not for distant when our merchants will awake to their in terests aud patronize home institutions. It is a wrong practice and should lie condemned.
