Votino in Novkmiieu. —Information has lieen nlready given, and there is riu sou to apprehend that a pretext of irregu ularity will lie nought to defeat the will or the people in the Presidential election. We have already published a telegraphic correspondence, puhllsucd by the Chair man of the Kxecutivc Coiumitteoo, show ing that while ouly one ballot box may l opened, tho voles for Presidential Klcc tors and the votes for Congressmen must tie separete and distinct. We assume this to lie correct, on the authority of the Kxecutivc Committee, although we fail to Und the law making this requirement. The requirement is that two separate and ballots must lie deposited—one containing the Presidential Electors, the other con taining the name of tho Congressman vo ted for. 1/Ct this be thoroughly under stood. One ballot to contain the names of tho Electors, and the Klectors only ; the other ballot to contain the names of the Congressmen! voted for.— Chronicle and Sentinel. | From the Memphis Appeal. The Celestials in Arkansas. Two years ago a number of Chinese ai lived at our wharf and were objects of great curiosity. The negroes especially gazed at them with wondering eyes, de claring. ‘•dem’s nigger's an’ a mighty small sort , dey looks as of swamp lover was bad wliar deni folks come from" Home ot these men settled near here, and among them a small colony found homes and cotton picking in the neighborhood of Marlon Arkansas, Some nine or ten miles from this city. Among them was Ah Maun, who proved to be a Chinese of education, gathered up some knowledge of English rapidity, became popular, and was called by the country people .Mm Ormond. 11 set to work at once The that day his cotton picking amounted to twenty two pounds. The negroes laughed at the small specimen with a pig tail un der Ids hat. lu one week not a negro on the plantation could bring ns much cot ton to the gis house ns All Maanu Ah Mann took ids triumph quietly, and kept his popularity. East spring he and six of Ids fellow country-men rented n piece of ground near Marlon. Twenty acres lhey put in corn und forty in cotton Seven times was the ground plowed over, until It was in complete order for u crop Every bit of grass wns obliterated, every week exterminated, every fence corner made clean. Tho five men appointed All Mann “boss," and Ah Mann allowed no slovenly ways. Early morn and dewy eve saw the six Chinese at their task, patient, plodding, unwearied industry that never lost heart, never intermitted, brought a crop of corn and unolbrr of cotten that are tin- admira tion of Crittenden county. Another wonder was tlmt All Mauu and Ids men not only[knew no such word ns fall, but they knew no such English as "sick.” well they were and well they rctpnlucd through heat und cold, and swamp fogs and oliilly mornings. Ah Mann's ener gy and skill, and that of his hard working companions Is admired, and we hear it said that if the group choose to break up next spring, taking new farms and Joining with them new hands, they will he liberally aided, and such money and supplies as may bo necessary will not be withheld.— Ah Mann Is triumphant, the white folks regard him ns a prodigy, but the negroes are not sure that there is not "a little oh debbil in him.” Published by roquet. 1 Domeitic Happiness DomuaUc happiuesa to a bright coitaum mmion. Fi delity to each other's promises is the foundation for domestic happiness ; never deceive each other in the most trivial matter. Deception can • more secure domestic happiness than neglect The golden strings of love must always be turned to the delicate attentions of one to the other. If the attention* of husband and wile aio cultivated they will yield a constant and rich harvest of happiness to both. Pursue au opposite courso to that, and love will ail a beggar at the fuel of neglect, with the sweeping and terrilie winds of winter passing over the pal aces of Uac heart It stops the pulse ot love, nud no store sre its 1 veals in obedience to the wishes of honored eoulidencc It aends home to the heart the messenger of agony, and the gaze is only on the skeleton of w lmt was. I/ove is a divine principle passed from one to the other by the mighty shuttle oi eter nity, weaving a fabric so exquisite and delicate, and yet so strong, that death alone esc break the threads that unite the whole. Vet neglect may torture the life out of love, and twist the tendrils of fond ntlec lion into despair. No laugh or smile can extract the pidn it drives to the heart. No royal gifts, no splendid paraphernalia, no elegant and luxurious mansion and grand equipage, can give back that w hich cold neglect has token. It may seem so. but it is not so. Neglect leaven ita effect* outlie heart, as sounds the last uote of farewell on the ear. The mau, Dcason, the sheriff'alleged lo have been murdered as sot forth iu the affidavit above, is said to have been a mid dle aged man. who had long lived in Wil kinson county, and had there a family, consisting of a wife and several grown children This family, living in comfor table and respectable circumstances at the time, he hail deserted, alter grossly abus ing and mistreating every member and re peatedly brutally beating bis wife, ami had taken up and was living in open comm bluagv with a notorious negro woman, near the village of Irwintou This black harlot he is said to have dressed up in the costliest and gamiest ar ray. and more than once, in open day light aud in defiance of all decency and propriety, carried In a carriage to church —himself sitting on the scat beside the woman—when his wife and family and neighbors were attending sen ices at the sanctuary at the time The second warrant issued (we are in formed) by Vuited Stales Commissioner A W. istoue. of this city, alleges that three effiraus of Wilkinson therein nominated, committed mayhem by castration upon the (h-inoi! of one Harry Lowther, a colored man, during the summer of last year. The first ot these is Dr. T. A. Simmons, a pop ular and infiuential physician practicing his profession at lrwiuton. and at present the presiding officer iu the Masonic Lodge at Ilia! place The second is Mr Henry Hyman, a prominent merchant of lrwiu ton. and the third is Mr Milton I.iudsav. a young man employed ns clerk in Mr. Hyman's utorc. The third warrant, issued by Commis sioner Bwsy/.e, wc leuru, alleges that two citizens, named in the warrant, whipped last summer a lewd negro woman mimed Harriet Calhoun, who now lives in Macon, On , where she has resided for the laHt fif teen or twenty mouths. 1 lie first of these, so accused, is-Mr. W. C. D. Carlisle, a most respectable merchant of Irwinlon, ami the second is Mr. George Gilbert, a youth at that time going to school, uud this year farming near that town The fourth warrant, (we understand) likewise by Commissicr Sway/.e, charges that three citizen of Wilkinson, about Au gust, 1871, seized und castigated a colored prostitute, named Jane Hush. This wo man and the one alleged in the foregoing warrant to have been whipped, to-wit Harriet Calhoun, arc said to lie sisters, and Jane, like her sister, lias been living in Macon for the past year and a half. The first party charged in the warrant is Mr. Eli I’eocock, a merchant of long standing in Irwinlon ; the second is Mr. Charles Peacock, a youth of seventeen, going to school in Irwinlon ; and the third is Mr. Carlisle, accused similarly in the third warrant we have mentioned. The last three warrants will scarcely he heard, as wc aie informed, until the first warrant, the parties to which were yester day before Commissioner Stone, is again brought up on Friday ami disposed of. The prosecutor in all these cases is the same person. He is a white man, mimed Judson Knight, an employe in Hie Secret Service of llie United State", who claims to he a citizen of Georgiu. This detective was specially procured and sent up to Wilkinson county about four weeks ago to work up these affairs. He was entirely "unknown to lame'' before, hut hereafter will perhaps he for a while somewhat prominent in the eyes of honest people, as In! lias doubtless become better acquainted with the blessings of "fortune'’ (however earned). ■ -* * WIIAT FARROW IS DOING.
