Not being satistied with being a prisoner of
of Uncle Sam, our friend James lias become
one of Cnpid’s victims, and is now a happy
prisoner for life. He is as free as a bird, how
ever, having given $2,500 bonds to Uncle Sam,
and liymenial bonds to Cupid. We only hope
the former will not Call-a-way the happy groom
until the honey moon is over.
Mrs. I>. I*. Bower#.
Despite the horrid weather a good audience
Assembled last niglit at Ralston Hall.
Mrs. Bowers as Mary Stuart is grand, and we
will not venture upon any labored criticism of
her superior rendition of the character for real
ty it neither require? or admits of any. If we
could carry with distinct vividness in ourpiind
the power of her utterance; the expression of
face, the eloquence of eye and mouth ; the con
sornate grace of her every movement, we would
then lack the time and ability to describe them
to our readers as we would wish them to be
comprehended.
To-night closes her engagement with us, and
we cordially commend her and her most excel
lent troupe to the good people of our sister
city, Columbus, and assure them that liers’ is
a first-class company and one whom they who
love good acting should patronize.

The fun of the morning was the trial of Mr.

Mr. Spinner was fined $lO and costs for that

Dektat. Machinery. —We were shown
sg tliis morning at the rooms of Dr. Wright,
. Dentist, over Pendleton <fc Ross’, a curious
machine used for the purpose of drilling
out the tooth preparatory to filling. The
motive power is a treadle worked by the
foot, and a fly wheel about 12 inches in
diameter which gives force and speed—
about three thousand revolutions per min
m ute, to a drill inserted in the end of a rod
with spiral points so arranged as to work
(• in any direction required about the head.
’ It does away with all the prying, boring,
etc., which the patient has heretofore had
to endure, rendering the operation far less
painful. The Doctor calls the machine a
Dental Engine.

A CARR.
I wish to state to the public that in my con
duct on Monday, I had no purpose of obstruc
ing Mr. Lowenthal in the discharge of Ills
official duty as a policeman. He is and was for
a long time my friend, and I meant no
offense to him whatever. He was in the dis
charge of his lawful duty at the t ime, and I was
very much excited and did not know what I
was doing and after it was all over had no re
collection of what I had done.
Whatever I did was done in a moment of
passion, and, if I said or did anything deroga
tory to the character of Mr. Lowenthal as a
gentleman, or to his vigilance and efficiency as
an officer, I hereby publicly retract it.

MD HIS CHARMING WIFE!
T I MI AT all-important even!, the election, having passed away, and the “ times Hint tried men' -
I souls” have merged into the 41 piping time of peace.and Winter has heen ushered in
among twitter of birds and music of the leaves ns t hey fall to the ground ; and the Summer lisu
ing faded away and tlm weather reduced to something agreeable, I have to announce, to my nu
merous and beloved patrons that f have recently returned from an extended trip to New York,
Philadelphia, Poughkeepsie and VVeeliassan, and other celebrated markets, where I purchased,
and have now iu my store, the largest lot of
“GOODIES!”
liver brought to Macon, consisting In part of Sugar, Coffee, New York Canvassed Hams and
Breakfast Bacon, Lard, Butter, Canned Fruit, Jellies, Rickies, Raisins, Nuts, Apples, Lemons,
Cabbages, Onions, Potatoes, Crackers, Cheese, Bpice<t flams, Bologna Buusages, and—well, it
would take me all day to write what I have got, and it would fill this paper bo full that Smith
wouldn’t have a local for a week. It is almost, unnecessary lor me Vo mention the. fact Unit lam
prepared, as ever, to supply Oysters and Shell fi ll of all kinds, from a Crab to a Grecdey oyster.
The finest Fish, fresh and on ice, is kept by me, and sold at living rates.
In view of the. fact that the people of Macon, and those visiting Macon, are determined to eat
whether they get anything good or not, I have; prepared myself for the emergency, by making
ample arrangements to have my
DINING TABLES
Supplied with the very best this and other markets can afford. That popular dish, “Birds on
Toa t” being my own Invention, the people can always find the same at rny restaurant. To
gether with my polite corps of waiters, this branch of my business will receive the patronage
of all of my old customers, and, J hope, many new ones. My restaurant is, us is well known,
supplied with the very best
EATABLES & DRINKABLES
that could be found. Therefore, gentlemen and ladles, having laid before you what T have on
band, and wishing you all the best luck and that ! can suit you in your purchases from me I
must close this letter. If at any time I can serve you, you have but to command me or my
corps of attentive and obliging clerks, and you will lie made happy. Thanking you for past
favors, I am tenderly yours,
