The Weather. To-day the weather is as balmy as heart could wish. The streets, though rather damp, are in a walkable condition and we notiee many ladies out shopping. I'hichen dlharlie. Chicken Charlie, xvlio shot ofliicor \\ illiam Wrye some time ago, was tried, convicted and sentenced to 10 years in the penitentiary, this morning. Nad Accident. A slight accident took place on the M. B. H. It. this morning, owe car of the Passenger train flew the track and we understood from some of the workmen that the conductor Mr. Merrible had his leg broken, no other damage done except the smashing of one car. Diseliarged. Capt. H. P. VVestcottwas arrested, on Fri day, on the charge of Violating the Enforce ment Act. He had a hearing before Commis sioner Swayze Saturday morning, and there being no evidence upon which to commit, the warrant against him was dismissed. Clark*s Hiisiuoss Map ol Mlacon. We have been shown the bird’s eye view of the city printed on an enlarged sheet, the mar gin of which is being used by our leading business houses as an advertising medium. A hundred copies are to be issued, mounted in map style, and conspicuously posted in city and country—not sold but put up in the inter est of the advertisers. Mr. Thomas Freeman is collecting the advertisements, and Messrs. Burke & Cos. will do the printing. It will be a good thing. Mgliling II is Wife. A creature named Cross was up before Mayor Hull', this morning, for being drunk and beating Ids wife. They lived, up to two weeks ago, in the ■ country, but Cross treated his wife so bad that she left him, and with four children came to Macon to live. Learning of her whereabouts, Cross came to the city, and upon promising to ' do better he was again installed as head of the family. But he forgot his promises, and again fell to drink and beating her. Things came to a climax on Saturday, and the worthy woman had the miserable creature arrested Upon hearing her story, the Mayor imposed a fine of t2~< and costs, and GO days on the streets. The flue ought to have been five hundred. Major's Court. Charles Gilbert is a lovely joutli of some twenty summers, but be knows a thing or two , of.bis from the rural districts. Yesterday an old man, also from the country, gave Charles a V to buy a ticket down the S. W. It. R , but the 1 ,111 looked so pretty hsjeouldn't help folding it np&nd slipping it in t lie hands of bis pal, who quietly went oft' on the train, leaving Charles as innocent looking as possible. His Honor saw through the little game, and Charles will pay 5 and costs, or sleep tranquilly in tie- Hole! kept by Chapman. U' in v Ford acknowledged to the Court that hcliad been sorter so on a small scale, and the consequence is he pays a sorter small tine of mil costs. Andrew Newson was up for fighting. His prosecutor fulled to make out a case. George Moore and 15. Long were brought up for a little scrimmage, but B. Long soon con vinced the court that he was right in doing what he did and George pays $5 and costs. A drunk did not make his appearance. John Cross for fighting his wife, <kc., pays B*!s and costs and works thirty days on the streets. IS W. Sawyer was up on a charge of dlsor- j defly conduct. In the same case Mr. L. Dub cam iup for the same oliencc. Nothing di.sor deriy could be proven. jjßrhc case of F. Kossimus for lighting will vt ani.e up to-morrow. Boston I’ire. ill. C. Persons wishing to re-insure will do well to apply to the Agents of these responsible corn er-panics. novllTt CONCLUSIONS. Thu general lesullofour late ITc.AIu tial election indicates that I. The objections to Quant's rule origi nally urged by Senator* Sumner, Schurz, Trumbull, etc., were forcible aud well grounded. Many of the most respeelable of Hie journals which, on cither side of tlio Atlantic, vigorously urged the Presi dent's re-election, now insist that the abuses thus proclaimed must be acknowl edged and corrected ; some of them de mand, in addition to Hie reforms specifical ly promised at Philadelphia, others still more radical and thorough. 11. Hut, where thousands admitted that the criticisms aforesaid were just, far fewer were ready to accept the only alter native presented. They say they would have supported Adams, or Davis, or Trum bull; hut not Greeley, lienee the vote is quite light, even in States and districts where the contest was spirited. 111. The great mass of our people feel no gyinpatliy tor those they still regard as liehels. Ou the contrary, they hold that these have been treated more leniently than they deserve. The majority will tolerate, not approve, the gift of office to a Longstreet. an Akcrman, a Settle, who has been baptized into the Republican chcrch hut they are not willing that any others shall hold office where they can prevent it. IV. Whichever party carries in Octo ber two of the three central States —Penn- sylvania, Ohio and luniaun —is morally certain to choose the President in Novem ber. There lias been no exception to this rule, save in 1821, when Jackson carried Pennsylvania and Indiana, and had a piurulhy of the Electors chosen, but Adams was elected lie the House. V. These two Slates having gone for Grant in October, not only was the contest •uiua|ly given up in the North, but thous ands ol luc oo n |led llebols went over to Grant, believing this their shortest way to perfect Reconstruction—Unit is, to secure tor themselves a practical equality of rights with other citizens. Then General Ker shaw of South Carolina at one time urged his fellow Rebels to run n ticket against Grant, as this would enable them to up peal with eliect for Federal sympathy us against their rascally State rulers. VI. The Republicans have won a per ilous triumph. John Randolph said Unit one was the best possible majority. When the old Republican parly had chosed Sir. Monroe President with only one Elector dissenting, it dissolved and ran four can didates nt the next election. VII. Though the Democratic party broke into fragments, not one of these lias distinctly proposed a return to the anti- Negro policy of other days. On the con trary, the Rourbons, who urged all manner of objections to Greeley, said nothing of his devotion to Equal Rights regardless of Color. We may fairly con clude that there will be no further formi dable, systematic opposition to Impartial Suffrage. VIII. There is little or no complaint from any quarter of violence or terrorism at the polls. Blacks and whites swarmed around a thousand polls, struggling zeal ously, but scarcely a blow was struck and no serious riot occurred. It is thus set tled that white and black may vote to gether without a breach of the peace— “rebel” aud “nigger” treating each other with forbearance and consideration. —-V. Y. Tribune. < flailed on Cotton. A gentleman of this city telegraphed to Charleston to ascertain “what effect will the Boston firm have on the price of cotton ?” The reply was—“the advance of interest to eight cents in England is more than the Bos ton fire.” X(Osncn nt ItoMton. I T is universally conceded that advertising is u necessity to success in business; it is also conceded, by the, shrewdest business men, that newspapers ire the best medium for reaching all parties whose trade is desired. THE MONKOB ADVBKTIhKU readies more of the people trading with Mu con than any other journal published in the country; it is, therefore, the lx*t medium of communication with th planting interests. We will he liappy at any time to furnish infer ences to leading merchants here and elsewhere, who will testify to the fact that they have re ceived orders for goods from parties who read their cards in Tin; Advertiwr. In fact, many who have availed themselves of its columns, candidly say that its value exceeds that of all other journals in which they are represented. The Advertiser lias the freshness of youth and the ripeness of age, and is therefore deservedly successful. CHARACTER OP ADVERTISEMENTS. No advertisements are admitted which are not believed to be above question and of real value, and from parties so unquestionably re liable that the readers of The Advertiser will tie safe in ordering them from any distance. To our reade rs, the fact of its appearance here has all the weight of endorsement and authority. Address, JAB. V. HARRISON, Forsyth, Georgia. J.
