Among the select few who accompanied him was Chicken Charlie. . ♦ ♦ —■ .Enrols for Savannal*. About half a dozen of our citizens leave to night for Savannah there to serve en traverse juries of the U. S. Courts. Among the num ber are Don Carlos and Mr. S. R. Ja<iues. ♦ ♦ I'or Aldermen. The gentlemen proposed for the Fourth Ward, to be endorsed by the ward meeting to morrow night, are Messrs, M■ • I*. Goodall, Henry L. Jewett and John It. Griffln. These gentlemen are the only ones spoken of as yet from that ward, and if elected will make good aldermen- llrit. Oates. We are really afraid this chaimiug little ac tress will not visit us this season. She is now suffering very much from that terriblo disease, consumption. As an incident of interest it is stated reliably that her husband left hers:!2,ooo, and she has add <1 t-> the sum. She is deci dedly the favorite of Macon, and is a sparkling little actress l.uok and Head. Attention is called to the advertisement of T. B. Cox, ssignee, who is selling off at cost the large stork of agricultural implements, mills, engines, pumps, rams, etc., at W. W Parker’s old stand. Ba. gains may now be had in useful plantation implements. Farmer* look to your interest. Colton Thieve*. We met officer Morgan Clarke this morning oq his way to arrest the second of a brace of cotton thieves, and to recover the cotton, same 1500 pounds, of seed. Joe .Tufts is in jail and Hal Thompson, the other one he thinks he wiil have soon. The cotton was concealed Hbout 4 miles from here on the new Houston road. A Family Jar. Merryman Butler and Josephine Butler are man and wife. They love each other as mar ried folks generally do, but ruptures will occur in the best of families. A dashing spark named Sam loves Josephine wisely if not too well and thus the troubles. Merryman gave Josephine positive orders not to entertain Sam, but she would do it and Merryman “ fit ” her for not minding him. This caused a row and Merry man will settle *5 and costs with officer Mur vhe* — oo Mayor's, Court. Two drunks plead guilty and are a-resned 1 $5-and costs each. Andrew Smith came up for trial his case was continued. Weley Nixon was called up. “Drunk, Wesley ?’’ “Yessir’ 1 “$5 and costa.” M. nd Josephine Butler fora family light, ended in M. paying $5 and costs. Richard Basset and J. J. Walton for cheating and swindling had their case continued. Walter Kelly for stealing pays ¥1 and costs or streets thirty days. In Troulilc. About eleven o’clock Saturday night, a young nig was scon around the grocery store of Messrs. C. C. Balkcom & Cos., on Fourth Street, who looked like he wouldn't steal a tiling he could lay his hands on. Mr. B. put a little money in the tack till of the store and Walter Kelley watched his chance and went for it. As soon as the theft was known a col ored friend went after Walter in hot haste, and soon succeeded in hauling him. Walter own ed |np but said he dropped the “swag." While officer Murphy held Walter, someone weii to look for the dropped, money. As he failed to discover its whereabouts, Walter was taker in town and was snatched up before his Honor tills morning who gave him the privi lege iif helping the city to the tnne of $lO and coe(e or chunking gravel on the streets for thirty days. —. Anderson is now beyond tlie necessity of imploring and gratefully receiving the mawk ish and sentimental sympathy of tender-heart ed journalists. Good H orl*. It will be remembered that Mr. Win. Wrye of our police force had a difficulty with Chick en Charlie some time ago which resulted in the loss of an eye to Mr. Wrye. Very recently Mr. Wrye applied to a celebrated optician in Phila delphia, through tlie ever popular druggists, Messrs. Zeilen ACo , for a glass eye. It came and was set by Dr. Clias. 11. Hall, and Mr. Wrye looks none the worse for his difficulty, tlie eye almost exactly matching the sound one. Mr. W’rye desires to publicly thank Messrs. Well, to do this successfully, she must know how to prepare him something good to eat, and to get something that is good you have only to go to W. A. Gibbons’, corner Fourth and Mclntosh Streets, and there you will find choice Tennessee beef, pork, sausage and everything nice and fresh, including fish, oysters, and groceries generally See his ad vertisement, in another column, and go and see him; whether you live far or near, it will be to your interest. .Ilislakrn. Deflance, Firo Company in defiance of the. wishes of the “Enterprise ” and as they would have it —of all prudence and good taste, named their steamer “VV. A. Huff." The above from the Savannah Republican. We did in the least object to the name. Of all names “W. A. Ilnff” would be our choice. We simply said and say it again that we depre cate the way of naming engines, bailies or any thing else after persons unless they have kick ed the bucket. Now that it is done we con gratulate “5” and trust that she will prove as prompt, reliable and progressive as her name sake. Atlanta, November 16, 187:1. Mr. It. J.
