If anything can approach snow in beauty it is the holiday gift atock of Brown ,t C. Not content with h iving tablea, counter*, shelve*, floors and corners full, they are constantly re ceiving them. Among the new arrivals we notice a lot of handsome and unique salts bot tles, and ladies who use such things can only find them at this beautiful store. The .llark Bralhrrs. \V invita special attention of the ladles and citizens generally to the superb stock of holi day and fancy good* kept by these gentlemen. Their stock of gent*, underwear and toilet articles Is large and well assorted, and as they keep none but first class goods, gentleiueu may rest assured that they will ha suited both as to quality and price. They are constantly adding to their already large assortment of notions and fancy goods, Tor their beautiful store is crowded nearly every fair day. Sec them. Nnaw —Bless ut list I Know. ■•The snow is on the grass again, Lorena,” and one of nature’s most beautiful picturea is presented to our view this morning. The little three year old at home looked out of the window this morning and on seeing the ground so purely white asked “ ain’t you going to take it in the house to keep from get ting dirty I” About an inch of suow was on the ground i bis morning, but is now rapidly melting. Th weather, of course, is cold. Mule of the Bonsl IMantaliun. We notice in a late Atlauta paper the aale of two tine plantarioas in Dougherty county be longlag to the estate of the lata Joseph Bond of ttiis city. Tne item is remarkable in that these landa worth S3O per acre before the war and S2O two years aco, were knocked down to Col B. G. Lockett for $225. After the sale the heirs expressed regret at it. when Col. L. raised his hid and gave the lands back to them. There may be some legal question at the bottom of this sale, but if not It certainly shows the planting interest of Southwest Georgia in a melancholy and deplorable condition linppy Cal Wuentr. The Nashville Union end American tliu* j * peaks of Wagner’* Minstrel* : bhv tiiat the famous Cal Wagner it at the head of a good company, will not express by half it* merits, for it has the deserved rep utation of being the very best now traveling, and bv the way, one of the largest, combining excellence in both vocal and instruments'. Among the vocalists, the name* ol J. VV. I'reetta, Albert Welling and Charles Welling, may be mentioned, as a trio of artist* not often found in any one company, while Cal Wagner and Sam Price do up the comic handsomely. After the first part the audience was favored -.nth an olio which was side splitting from be ginning to end. The song* and dances by Canfield, and Booker, ir , were never equalled in the country, while Cal Wagner’* Plantation Melodies are so natural that you can imagine yourself at an oid-fashioned com shucking Vrcd Wilson, in his Grecian Statues, and Ben Brown, In his champion jig, Is also deserving of special mention.” Thia famous troupe of Minstrel* will perform here ob the 10th end 17th. and all who wish to go had better aecure seat* early. A word to to the wise, etc. Sol Mrailh Rassell, The power to leugh and -angh heartily has been a fortune to ns. We have been poor end needy end otherwise afflicted, but never so far saak in the slough of despondeney as not to Isugh. We do not laugh at everything—oh, no! We remember once that a fit of blue* had enveloped ne in its dull embrace, end we were down in the mouth generally, when we first saw onr genial friend 80l Smith Ruseell. At the first contortion of his flexible feature* the blnee were cored, and in leas than two min °tes we were the happiest person in existence, not caring a enap for anybody a* long as Sol twisted his face. He will ho hare on the 19th. ’■fats Kplaooiy, It is indeed fanny to witness the artful dodges resorted to by our hitherto thriving draymen to induce the fiery untamed ox to draw his dray. We saw oe on Cotton Avenue this morning that amused us. Hitched to a single dray was a small bull who hud uot as yet boon e lucuted to obey the vulgar com mands of “whoa" and “gee," but, like all hulls of respectable parentage, hail a head of Its own. A chain wna attached to the centre of Its heaJ by being wrapped around its short horns, ami it was by this means that tin driver vainly endeavored to control his movements and direct its course. But the di ay wobbled from side to aide like a velocipede under an amateur, and the driver was wrntliy. “Where’s your horse V” “Got the epizooty, eab !” And Pompey ripped and swore. Ins whip was applied with astonishing vigor, sad a torrent of (but* swopt like whirlwind over the head of the obstinate bovine. At last a Christian lady who had heard the unfortunate hut contrary ox cursed for fn-iy au hour, went up aud remonstrated w ith the infuriated driver and told him that such swearing would ruin his c onistitutioh • Conatilu —h—l and d—m nation '. i'll make dis ox git tip and git or I’ll kill him 1“ And we left him working his arms like the piston rods o au engine, hut the ox did not git — *• ttailieal .’Mwnalnailouw." M ihiuk our cotemporary does wrong In >)’ .gnatln tin people's candidate, ns the “ lte.dcul on.,.anions.” We cannot see why politics should he mixed in with our city attain;. We are all here together, the laws are laid down, our Mayor and Aldermen have no unlimited power, then why should party lines lie so distinctly drawn V The people's ticket is not a Radical ticket, and we no not candidly think our cotemporary can prove taut they are other than non-politicians, or the greater por tion of them are not life-long Democrats. The people have as much right to vote for a Board of Aldermen paying taxes on $440,842.00 worth of property as oilers have for those paying on $71,775 00 worth. Fair play is a jewel and we like to see it in everything This paper does not take with the peoples’ ticket, hut a? a public jour nal, pursuing a course it conscientiously be lieves to he right, it advocate* fair play and square dealing in everything concerning city or State affairs. But as regards the nomination, it was simply an endorsement, aud if our cotemporary is not overly anxious to consider the people’s ticket a radical ticket, he will agree with us In the statement, I . f*. C'ninmissioners Court. TUtAt or IIENBT I*. iZAlt', h V. J. Clarke Swayze had arraigned before him this morning Henry V. Harvey of Sumter county for violating what is known as the ICu klux law of Congress. He was charged with violating the second section of the Act in that he “conspired to impede, defeat and obotract the due course of justice.” Judge K. K. Lyon appeared for the defense. Ju.lge L. endeavored to grant the indictment on the ground that the alleged otfense did not come under the law for and iu such cases made and provided—that the indictment did not from wording authorize the present proceedings being taken. The Court ruled the point well taken and dismissed the ease. PiiorLx'a Tickbt. — Memrt. Editor*: Messrs. Asher Ayres, T. C. Dempsey, John Valentino aud Hayne Ellis, have beeu proposed for Alder men of our city by the people, irrespective of party. These gentlemen ara known to you and your many reader* as good and true Democrat*, hat they havo publicly and privately refused to be candidates against the regular nominees. We know they are the choice of our citizens, and as Democrats who believe it to he to the interest of our city, have resolved to elect them and only allow them to decline after election We call upon the Democratic party to cast their votes for them in a body. There can bo no doubt of their election. decll-lt Truk Dkmociut*. CITY DIRECTORY. MASONIC. Macon Lodge, No. 5, meets ever}- Ist and 3d Monday night, at Masonic Hall, Cotton Avenue. Mizpah Lodge.
